Alternative Winter Rims - what are they

Well, we had lots of discussions about winter wheel options during the summer. It appears that not many new choices have presented themselves over the last few months - that kind of sucks. The goal is to keep the package around $1000 or lower.

So, lets us compile a summary of the choices we have right now, as of Nov. 2003.

-----> STOCK WHEEL with WINTER TIRE:
- need to reuse your rims or buy another set (~$1100 with used Advans) + cost of your winter tires.

-----> ASA KA3 WHEEL from Tire Rack:
- each rim is about $155 + your winter tires.
- The wheel is 7.5" wide with 35mm offset.
- no spacers needed.
- apparently not in stock till late Nov.

or (different finish)

-----> MILLE MIGLIA HT-3 WHEEL from TIRE RACK:
- each rim is about $179 each + your tires.
- the wheel is in 8" wide like stock.
- no spacers needed.

------> STEEL WHEELS
- not available

-------> WHEELMAX and similar
- have nothing that fits

------> DISCOUNT TIRE
- anything from DiscountTire yet?

------> OTHER VENDOR
- anything from other vendors

ASA is supposed to fit without spacers, and the narrower width is a lot nicer if you live in snowbelt. Blizzak WS-50 in 215 fits that rim and is like $131 a tire.

Thank you for that information. Lets clarify a bit first though.

KA3-only available in Bright Satin Silver finsh for the EVO. That is the first picture shown in this post. Will fit w/out spacers, currently on backorder till Jan 1st.

HT3-No spacers needed for fitment. Also on backorder, hopefully available around middle of Dec.

Action-No spacers required. In transit here for the 14th of Nov. This will be the only option for a while till the others arrive.

Winter came early out east and west so many customer already bought what I had in stock on these items. Sorry for the lack in availability, but thats what I have.

I couldn't wait any longer - had 2 days last week of under 40 degree temps. I didn't wanna chance it anymore, so I ordered just tires for TireRack. Got them today - very fast!

Thanks for the clarifications Neal, I assume you are referring to these, no?

Believe it or not, I want to have a total of 3 sets of rims.

Stockers for daily driving.
RPF1s for autocrossing. Coming next spring.
A set of smaller width rims for winter.

I also want CHEAP rims for winter. 220 is not cheap in my book.

I bought a set of Konig Verdict's, way back in August, 17" X 8", for $124 (mounted and balanced) each, from the Discount Tire store near me. They almost look stock, check them out: http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/red...an-Evo&.view=t
