Both the nt-05 and the Star specs are great tires in my book.
Out of curiosity, which size tire and wheel rim width? (stock or otherwise)

From what I've seen/heard the NT-05 is too hard of a compound to really be competitive in autox. More of a track tire.

I auto-x my evo too, and I'm in desperate need of new tires. I was gonna go with the Falken Azenis RT-615 in 245/45 size (not the new K tire, the old one). They are way cheaper than the star specs. Is the performance of the star spec tire that much better than the RT-615?

Simple answer is..some of the national level trophies are won on Star Specs, not 615s.

They are cheap because they are on fire sale. The 615K are out to try and close the performance gap on the Z1* (615K are not cheap).

stock wheels - 235/45-17
from what i've heard, going bigger then 245 on the stock rims means that u'll probably have more tire roll so thats why 245's are suggested

+10000 Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs.

Also, NT01's are not good auto-x R-Compounds, but more of a track compound.

The best of the best R-Compound for autocross is the Hoosier A6, but wear is quick. Kumho gives up a little grip for longer life, at least this has been my personal experience.

Simple answer, yes.

If the Z1's are too expensive, i'd try the Hankook Evo's over the Azenis RT615s.
