Question HELP: How to adjust TEIN Coilover

Hi guys,

today I wanted to adjust the ride height of my Evo IX. First of all I put the car on the hydraulic stage, unmounted the wheel and cleaned the whole damper to get rid of small stones or sand... After reading the TEIN MonoFlex Manual, it says to change the ride height you have to adjust the lower mounting bracket to adjust the whole shock (not the pre-load by adjusting spring seat). Ok, so I tried to rotate the lower bracket with the TEIN Special-Tool, but it wont move. I tried a bit harder and demolished one of the bracket-studs .
How does it work, is there a trick to adjust the shock?

btw. changing the 2 pre-load brackets works perfect.

I did 2 pictures to show you the troublemaker

Maybe somebody could help me - I would really apreciate it.

Thanks,
Alex

Try squirting some pb blaster or wd40 on the lower bracket ring and let is soak. Then try again. Ur doing it right though.

wow, very fast respond

I used WD40, a lot of it, let it soak a while but it wont move.
I'm very unsure, cause I dont want to destroy another bracket-stud.

Do I have to unmount anything or is there a secret screw like on the KW Coils?

All u do is undo the bottom ring, then turn the whole shock body. Worse comes to worse, detach the coilover from the bottom where it mounts to the a-arm and rotate the bracket itself.

Ok, thnx.

But when I undo the bottom-ring (i guess its just a kind of lock-bracket), where do I have to put leaverage on the whole shock? Just turn it by Hand?

Today I tried it again and it worked perfect, I was able to undo the bracket and change the shock height as well as the spring pre-load settings.

something to keep in mind is that anytime you change the ride height, you change the alignment as well. you need to have the car realigned if you're changing the ride height. depending on how much you've changed it, you could have seriously thrown things out of whack.

Here are the distances from the Tein manual that came with the coils:

from the top surface of the bottom lock ring to the bottom surface of the bottom lock ring for the lower spring seat
Front: 53 mm
Rear: 152 mm

Here is a very crude drawing:
