Why do you think you need 255/40?
255/40 are shorter than OEM. Will be less responsive with turn-in. Weight more than OEM (rotational mass is bad). Footprint (contact patch) is only slightly bigger.
There is no reason to get 255/40 for DD.

Yes, but I think your more likely to find a great tire for auto-x that works well on the drag strip and exceptional in the street; then a great drag race tire that handles incredibly well for the street.

You need to decide what it is that you're after. You have recommendations from folks who have no idea how a drag tire behaves, recommendations from those who didn't read the initial post and assumed that you're referring to a road course (ie. track days), and recommendations from those who want you to buy what they did, regardless of application. Among all that, there were a few guys who explained the scope of the issue and its constraints. Seems pretty clear-cut. Good luck.
