there are lots of autox'ers and road racers (not to mention the tire manufactures) who would disagree that KDW2's grip better than Z1's.

Z1's are a 200 UTQG w/A traction & A temp ratings
KDW2's are a 300 UTQG w/AA traction and A temp ratings
RE-11's are a 180 UTQG w/A traction & A temp ratings

Per the tirerack both the RE-11 and Z1 are classified as Extreme Performance Summer while the KDW2's are an Ultra High Performance. UTQG rating isn't standardized, but it can put you in the ball park when comparing tires.

For another frame of reference, the top level SCCA street tires guys have been winning championships on the Z1's and before that it was the RE-01R (the precursor to the RE-11). Nobody, as far as I know, has done anything worth writing about on the KDW2's...

the dunlop and Bridgestone Potenza RE-11's both have super hard side walls and are heavy tires they offer little side wall flex being a autox tire are not the best tire for a 600whp car i understand you not wanting dr you dont get many miles from them but there are alot of other tires that still offer decent grip and milage just are not as sticky.

FWIW, I just put on a new set of Z1 Star Specs after 53K miles on the RE-01R (predecessor to the RE-11).

Obviously, the mileage of the old tires make for poor comparison but even when the RE-01Rs were new, they were noisier, rode harder, and didn't grip as well.

I'm *thoroughly* impressed with the Z1 Star Specs and think they're phenomenal value. Add on top of their stellar performance the 200 treadwear rating? Sold!

Give 'em a shot - I betcha you'll like 'em.

I was going to ask this same question today and running around 650whp. I was thinking about ditching my 225/45/17 BFG drag radials since I want to run a larger 17" size. I'll have to check out the tires some are suggesting.

Has anyone tried the Falken Azenis RT-615K?

The also have a 200 rating.

ebay has fire sales on R comps all the time. I just picked up a set of AO32s for less than $90 each. I've found clearance R comps to be cheaper and better performing than new street tires.

The link I used ... auction is over:

Otherwise try this guy...
http://www.jbracingtires.net/

He is local to us but he ships tires. You can get your hands on like new full race stickies for next to nothing. If you think Hoosier R6 and A6 have grip.... try a non DOT slick.

I'm running Kumho Ecsta XS (255/40/17) and making well over 600whp/500wtq, these things hook very nice. Great dry grip and low price to boot

lol i crack up when i see people mention kumho MX's.... they are good for the price but then they dare mention it when others are mentioningg Z1 starspecs and other true R compounds etc! funny

anyhow thats what i'd personally try, the Z1 starspec. even falken RT215's are solid but a step down but neither choice will get tons of mileage from them.

Good to hear since I just bought a set. I've heard alot of good things about the newer XS tires. They're also lighter and cheaper than most tires.

I ran the xs's on a practice fwd track car and held up amazingly well and had decent grip. But unbeatable bang for the buck!
