are you guys serious?

recommending R-comps for street?

I'd say for the money... Z1's are nice all around.
AD08's are great in dry and wet! but are a bit more expensive.

Only two I've personally driven on.

I was thinking of the Nitto's until I read this thread:

http://modularfords.com/forums/showt...and-Nitto-NT05

Let me SAVE you guys alot of trouble. The Nitto NT05 SMELL LIKE SH*T!!!!! NO they really do! I have had many diff brands of tire, and even 555Rs, but not one of them ever smelled like raw sewage! Thank God discount tire said they would exchange for something diff. I was stressing out b/c i thought i was going to be stuck w/ them, that how bad it is. No you know whats bad, how about your whole garage smelling like SH*T! Even better, can you imagine hangin w/ the guys and someone say, whats that smell? Oh its just my car. That all I have to say about that.
Actually kind of funny. Anyone else experience this smell?

RE-01R's, ADO8's, RE-11's, Star Specs just to name a few, RE11's are my favorite out of the group.

If you haven't run R comps then you won't understand. On a scale of 1-10 of things that make the EVO totally rock I would rate tires as a 10.

If you put crap tires on an EVO you just ruined it. If you can't afford top of the line tires then you shouldn't own the car.

I am guilty of putting crap tires on my evo. I bought as set of BFG KDWs when they were on sale and they ruined my car. All they do is squeal instead of grip. Putting any tire less grippy than what the stock advans were should be a sin.

I have since pulled them off and switched back to ADVAN AO32 rcomps. I'm not saying you need to get R comps but a good deal is a good deal so don't pass them up. What I am saying don't cheap out on tires ... ever. Don't do it.

I'll be running 265/35/18 Direzza Star Specs on 18x9.5, and I'm nowhere NEAR that power, but I think it would probably work well for you if it's a street tire you're interested in. KDWs just arent even in the same level IMO so don't even provide a good basis for reference.

I really don't think any non-rcomp is going to get the job done on a 600hp EVO. Going with a wider street tire will help in the twisties but it won't do **** in a straight line. You need more stick. Fact is you could go narrower with a drag radial or rcomp and probably be better off.

I'm with Jeff on this.

I made 540whp on 265/35/18 RE-01R's and it was fine for the street, but I wasn't turning AT ALL. The car would float 2nd (some wheel spin) I would recommend r comps as well.

Also, R-comps in the winter in the NW...No thanks. I love rain tires actually. Easy to break loose and get sideways with, but actually moves water for when you get hit with the storms. I like to kick my car sideways from time to time and dont like having to be doing 2x the speed limit to do it.

Then, swap in the Auto-x rubber when I need real grip cause your R-comps are just a wannabe's :P

I ran 275-40-17 RA1s for awhile as a drag/sticky street tire. Other than not working in the rain, I cut my fastest 60' on those tires.

I should add, I also don't have 600hp...barely half that. So playful oversteer and putting the power down, rain tires work amazing.

Aaron, don't be a pansy... Drake took his RA-1's in the snow all day long :P
