My review of Toyo Proxe T1-S on the EVO
I had these tires a while ago on my WRX, but going to a T1S from the stock WRX tire, was night and day. I was wondering how they would stack up to the already-sticky-as-**** AO46 that comes stock on the EVO.
My stock tires were getting a little bald, so the dry traction was increasing a tad, while at the same time wet traction was decreasing. So yesterday I got my T1-S' mounted to my new SSR GT2's (pics coming) in preparation for my coiliovers to be installed. Here are my first impressions:
- Identical to stock A046 as far as sidewall flexing. VERY little. The same driver input was needed to carve the EVO down my country road.
- Almost identical dry handling as stock A046. The transition from traction to no traction is very good. There is a progression where you know that you are losing too much traction. They felt very sticky. At some parts down my road I almost forgot I had different tires on. Still not quite as sticky as stock, but still very excellent.
- Road noise was a tad better than stock A046. You now hear more of your engine/drivetrain because of no road noise coming up through the tires.
- I have yet to get them out in the rain (cant believe it, its not raining in Seattle!~!) But I'm almost positive they will handle better than stock in our local monsoons.
- Treadwear is also significantly greater than stock at 280.
All in all, I think these were an excellent choice for stock replacements. My only concern is the tire diameter seems bigger. Even at the stock 235/45/17 size, the just look big. Its either my crazy 30mm offset, or these big *** tires, but I think lowering my car will now be difficult!

Not to dig up an old topic but now that it's been a few more months, do you have any additional thoughts? I'm really trying hard to find a cheaper alternative to the OEM A046s and it seems like the T1S might be it. I had been looking at the Yokohama ES 100s but I think I'd be giving up too much grip with those...

To be honest, I can barely tell I have different tires on.
I have ~2000 miles on them, and still plenty of treadwear. Sidewalls barely flex during hard cornering...
The only complaint I have about them is they look bulky! But theyre the same size as stock..

nice review, except i think u are using the word treadwear wrong ??? when u said it has "significantly greater treadwear" that would mean the tread would last less. i just wanted to say that cause i got confused reading your reply too, "I have ~2000 miles on them, and still plenty of treadwear." for that you should just say tread sorry, i dont mean to insult you or anything, it's just that it might confuse some people thinking that the Proxes last a shorter time than the advans.

how about try a Vendor online? I am a Toyo Dealer and Vendor. I have the T1S for $151 each. Plus shipping. Go to Frisbyracetire.com and click the Toyo Logo. It takes you to all prices and sizes.
For the more cost consious, check out the Proxes 4, Toyo's newest tire. $124 plus shipping in EVO sizes. Maybe not as good, but real close. It is M+S rated as well so you can use in the snow with less worries than the T1S. BTW both tires are AA Traction an A Temp.
Pm me if interested or call the shop.

www.treadepot.com has them for like $160 i think....
Sorry, I meant after 2000 miles there is still a ton of tread on the tire. Even after several hard canyon runs and a few awd burnouts.
There are a tad lighter than A046's also. I believe the 235's weigh 23.6lbs which is substantially light.
