Cant remove strut top nut

I know youre gonna say search.... done
I know youre gonna say impact gun... done

I've actually had it apart a few times before, never had a problem. Reason for removal is investigating a clunking from that side. The driver side tightened down just fine. Passenger side spins and spins and spins, impact or with ratchet. Tighty or loosey just spins.

Suggestions to getting this punk off?

B

Use a vice grip on the flat portion above the nut along with a closed end wrench.

Definitely thought of this, but is the nut not way too far deep into the cap to get a wrench on? Its a stock setup for winter.

Kracka I'll get one of the 45 degree box end wrench sets and use a vise grip give it a shot. All I need to do is crack it and im good to go. I realized now that the rubber spring cap lining fell out on the garage floor before I reinstalled the top mount, so that is probably causing the clunky clunk I have on starting in 1st and on initial decel. Its not clunking on bumps or anything at all.

Use a pipe wrench or similar to hold onto the strut tube. You'll have to get the wrench between the springs, so it may be easier with the strut assembly off the car.

Or, you could spend the $80 and get the actual tool from mitsu. You can do some local spring installs to offset the cost, because now they will be easy!

Is the car on the ground. One method is to leave the car on the ground, then loosen the nut slightly, and jack it back up for removal.

Nut is spinning, shaft isnt. Its stripped to ****.

I have removed tonnes of these, first one to give me trouble. On ground, in air, standing on hub assembly, not able to get it to catch a thread.

Problem solved, bought MitsuJoes suspension. Thanks for the input.

Yeah, if no weight is on the strut then it will just spin. I always crack the strut nuts loose before jacking the car.

Guys, that is not the problem.

I think ive explained pretty clearly, all the usual methods of cracking the nut have been tested. The strut IS NOT SPINNING. The nut is. Round and round both ways.... no big deal, **** happens. The car was on the ground when it was tightened, and it didnt end up going tight. The car was on the ground when I first tried to get it off, then again, then again using different methods/tools.

Anyway, end of thread, its not coming off. Ever hahahaha.
