I used these (Goodyear Eagle GT) last year on my FWD Eclipse and never had problems with traction. Drove through 4+ larger storms that we had in the DMV area last year with them.

I'd definitely pick up the conti extreme winter contact dws's since you can get all 4 for under $500. Great tires in the snow.

Any opinions Neal (or anyone else) on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus? On tirerack they seem to have the best dry handling ratings in the class. They are more money than the Contis, but are they worth considering if you greatly value dry weather performance from your All-season tire?

I had contiextremecontacts for my VIII and they were fantastic in the snow. While nothing compares to a true snow tire, I never had any problems in WI weather.

I have snow tires on my beater corolla and they do better on ice than the all seasons, but you should be fine. If prices haven't changed, I think I bought a set of OE size for under $500

Nothing compares to a true snow tire. I ran all seasons for a day with snow and it was horrible, once I threw on a set of Hankook IPike W409's I cut though the snow and ice like butter. If where you live gets at least 3 months worth of snow I would go with a full snow set up.

I just got conti DWS put on and they are awesome. Traction was good in pure snow and slush and they stopped very well. It hasn't stopped snowing here for days, so I've been getting a good test out of them.

The Mich will do well in light to moderate snow climates. Better dry but not as good snow traction as the DWS. If you want better clear/dry day handling then the Mich is the better of the two.

The General Altimax will own any all season tire in the winter. If you're going to get 2 sets of tires, one for winter and one for summer, that would be the way to go for the money, IMO.

The General isn't bad, better than an all season, but designed as a studdable winter tire. They do well within their class but aren't as good as the studless snows like the Conti and others.
