Thanks for including that nugget from the beginning, LOL
Then it probably won't rub in the front, but you're still gonna need to roll the crap out of your rear fenders.
And to answer your PM, yes, 255/40/17s will fit on 17x9.5 wheels just fine. But whether or not it rubs is a completely different story. 9.5s are obviously harder to fit than 9s. A 17x9.5 +30 will stick out further than a 17x9 +25 by about 1-2mm.
So to answer all of your questions at once:
If you don't want to roll your rear fenders, get a 17x9 wheel with a +30 to +35mm offset and 255/40/17 tires and stick a 10mm spacer up front to fill your wide fenders. Most 17x9.5 wheels ain't gonna work in the back without rolling.

Good thread guys lots of excellent info!! I wanted to get some more input on some CE28N's I'm looking at.
I want to run 17x9 but don't know how aggressive the +35 offset will look. Obviously there won't be any rubbing in the back and I could probably run a 5mm spacer up front but would it look much more aggressive than stock?? I don't really want to go 17x9.5 and +28 though to get a nice look. I'll have to get bigger tires plus roll the rear. I'm looking to stay lightweight both with wheels and tires so 17x8.5 or 17x9 is probably what I'm looking at.

IMHO, one of the best aggressive looks without a ton of work is a 18x9 or 17x9 +29mm Advan RS. Those will stick out 20mm wider than the stockers and have a sick concave face. You need to roll the rear fenders, but that's about it.
17x9.5 +28 will be a bit of work in the back, but if you can find something in the +35mm range, you might be able to get that to tuck in with just some fender rolling, but you'd have to run a different offset or use spacers up front and I'm not a fan of either of those options.

hey guys im from australia and just got my evo 8 mr, ive been readin through all ur posts but havent came across something that will answer my Q.
im currently looking at a set of gram lights 57pros with a titanium lip in 18x9".
questions:
1. will i need to work the rear guards? (im pretty sure i have to cause ive read it somewhere here b4, but just wanna confirm)
2. does staggered offset mean the front offset is different to the back?
3. what offsets will i need so that they will clear the brembos front and rear? (i want the rear to have as much dish as possible)
4. im pretty sure ill need spacers, i read sumwhere on this thread ill need a 5mm spacer? (just asking to make sure as i dont wanna get it wrong, cause theres no refunds )
thanks for the help guys!

2. Yes, but usually this is for RWD cars as the rear wheels are wider as well. Not very common on AWD cars, but some autocross ppl do it for handling reasons.
3. For an 18x9, you want to be in the +32 to +35mm offset range with a 255/35/18 or 235/40/18 tire. The 57pro is available with 3 different faces. The "A" face is listed as clearing the big brakes on a Lancer. The standard "A" offset is +12mm though. So I would recommend the "B" face in a +40mm offset with a 6-7mm spacer. But I'm not a fan of 5-spoke wheels on an Evo. You can get the 57SPro in the "A" Face and +33mm offset and shouldn't need any spacers.
4. You only need spacers if you buy wheels that don't fit right. I personally despise them. They often cause vibrations because they are difficult to align and if you don't use extended studs, you don't get a whole lot of threads in the lugnut, which can be very dangerous for anything more than a 2-3mm spacer.
Please do a little more research. I'd hate to see you stuck with no refunds on a wheel that doesn't fit properly.

1. No clue, depends on offset and tire size, but it should be minimal unless you get aggressive with the offset.

jbrown,
I am currently running 17x8 RPF1's with 255/40 17 Azenis with a 35mm offset. I am not a fan of how much the tire rolls at autocrosses and track days so I was considering going with a 17x9.5 RPF1 with 38mm offset with the 255's again. First, would I have to be concerned about these wheels fitting over the brakes? Second, would I have to be concerned about rolling the fenders with the same width tires? Thanks a bunch, I will continue searching on my own as well.
