get some SS brake lines with some Hawk HP+ pads or something of the sort and call it a day...

BBK's are pretty much useless unless your going to be doing some heavy tracking...

You will need to roll your rear fenders for sure and relocate your rear bumper tabs. You will also probably have to roll your fronts and depending on the size of tire, do some pulling. Not sure if you will need to run any spacers either for the front. A 255/35/18 should work, but you will have to do the above said items minus the pull and without knowing your setup, anything over a 255 will require more serious fender work. That being said, a 255 will stretch the tire pretty good and ideally you want to run a 265 or 275 to better fit the wheel.

There are a lot of unkowns with your setup, so perhaps you can add if you have already rolled/pulled your fenders or have wider ones, etc. This will allow others to better comment on the best sized tire for you.

^ do not get Hawk HP+ or HPS. There are far better pads.

Good advice & no spacer are required.

Questions about running wide RPF-1's

Hello,

Let me start off by saying I am a neewb when it comes to wheel set ups and tires. I have a couple questions that may be simple but I have searched still can't find a clear answer on. Any help people can give me will be helpful.

To offer you some background infomation I have a 05 EVO 8 on 17in Enkei RP03 with 245/35/R17 dunlop star specs that came with the car when I purchased it used. Im looking to upgrade in the next week or so to a set of all black Enkei RPF-1. I kinda want to go a bit wider so im looking at 17 x 9 with a 255/40/R17 dunlop star specs. With this set-up will....

1. I Have to do any fender rolling?
2. I autox locally. Will this size affect performance handling negatively
3. Is this tire size the correct size for the rim
4. Will this tire size rub at full lock
5.Do i need to run a spacer to clear the calipers if so what size
6. What offset should I be looking to get to get the best look & performance. ( I just dont want them protruding so far that i have to adjust the fenders for a flush look)
7.Should I just run the 17x8.5 that the manufacture reccomends and forget this idea of running a wide set up because it wont work and is a big hassale.
8. Does anyone have any pictures of this size set up on the RPF-1 rim.

Thanks

1. 5. 6. In 17x9 your choices for offsets are 35 or 22. The 35 will fit without any rubbing but will require a large spacer to clear the front brakes. I'm not 100% certain about this but with the shape of the spokes of the RPF1 wider than 8.5. I think you will still need a small spacer to clear the front brakes and most likely will need to roll your rear fenders.

2. This is a very common size and should have no negative effects.

3. A 255 fits well on a 9" wheel but because of the curve of the spokes I would go with the 8.5" width or something other than RPF1s.

4. Maybe a little with the 22 offset.

7. The width isn't a problem, I run 9.5" wide wheels without any problem, again its the spokes that wont clear the calipers.

8. Here's my car on the 8.5" +30 RPF1's with 255 tires.

First off. I am not the expert. I have been looking at the RPF1's 17x9 +35 w/the 255/40 tire. Just my opinions

1. I Have to do any fender rolling? Yes (Rear only)
2. I autox locally. Will this size affect performance handling negatively (No. should be a performance enhancer)
3. Is this tire size the correct size for the rim. Yes
4. Will this tire size rub at full lock I dont think so but not sure
5.Do i need to run a spacer to clear the calipers if so what size. Yes. I dont have my notes in front of me but I think the large 20mm is required up front
6. What offset should I be looking to get to get the best look & performance. ( I just dont want them protruding so far that i have to adjust the fenders for a flush look) +35 is what Im looking at
7.Should I just run the 17x8.5 that the manufacture reccomends and forget this idea of running a wide set up because it wont work and is a big hassale. (No. The 17x8.5 looks terrible IMO)
8. Does anyone have any pictures of this size set up on the RPF-1 rim. (Search. There a few threads on the RPF1's running the 17x9+35 setup

Peace

17x9 with 255 anything works.

Depending on your offset, you'll have to either run spacers or roll fenders or neither to fit. Some brands/offsets obviously fit better than others. Enkei's aren't the best...

If you have a correct offset like a 5Zigen FN01R-C in 17x9 +35 - they'll fit a 255 StarSpec w/o fender rolling and w/o spacers. Braking, turn-in, response etc will all increase! Or Volk CE28's for example. Depends what you want, your budget, etc.

I would love to get Volks but I am a college student and rims of those price those don't fit my expendable budget right now. I do like the RPF-1 because they are light weight and they are reasonably priced.

As I gather information from this thread it seems that the 8.5in rim is the best rim size to get because it can be mounted without any spacers or fender rolling. But the 9in rim is better at holding the 255/40/r17 tire. The only discrepancy I am finding is that the 255 does not seem to be the recommended tire for the 8.5in rim. I am concerned that under high stress such as a auto-cross course the tire might have a tendency to roll because it is too wide for that size rim. This seems like it would scrub out tires quick and have a potential for a tire blow-out. Am I correct in thinking this way?

Lastly, does anyone have pictures with the 17x9 w/ a 35mm offset with 255 tire and thanks "ssccottt" for the pictures

Ok I will. Spacers can be a PITA if you are changing wheels often. That is a huge factor IMO, may help you decide. Although the NT03 requires spacers, it's cheaper and lighter.
