These will be going just on a set of stock MR BBS wheels (8" width)...I'm REALLY debating whether I want to go with the 255, or just the 235.

I've ran 255's in the Star Specs, NTO5's and Advan A032R's on the stock wheels. Honestly, you do lose some turn in/response. However, the evo's steering, even with 255's on the stock wheels, is still better than 99% of the cars out there that I've driven; Anything from miata's, to m3's to a GTR.

So most LIKELY I'm going to go with the 255/40/17 again since I'm looking for the most grip I can get since autox takes up a lot of my time on the weekends.
Very nice! After seeing the difference in width in another thread between the NT-05 and the RS-R, idk that I would go wider on these tires. I know wider = more grip, and that the Evo has fantastic turn in and a very fast rack, but I feel you'd lose too much feel. If it was me, I might just stick with the OEM tire size.

Good to hear! How many miles do you have on the tires and how are they wearing as a daily driven tire?

Jalal,

The Star Specs in a 255 width are even wider than these Federal's in a 255. I haven't made up my mind yet...but I'll be in the 400whp/400wtq range this year and I need all the grip I can get. I'll keep you posted as I'll be ordering this week hopefully.

Damn, ok!

The photos I saw made the RS-R's look a good margin bigger than the NT-05. I'll take your word for it! Definitely keep me posted. If you could get pricing on the OEM size 235/45R17 as well, that would be great!

Thanks!

For a 255 width:

Nitto NT05 setion width 10.047
Federal 595RS-R 10.2
Dunlop Star Spec 10.4

Obviously these numbers will change depending on wheel width.

Doesn't the outter edge of these tires look really thin on tread depth (new)? Or is it just me? If I'm not insane, that worries me for autox since that's normally the first part of the tire to cord....

Thoughts on this?

Im a retailer/wholesaler of Federal Tires. I absolutely love them. Thats the main reason I carry them. Im new to the Evo world. I just picked up an 05 to daily but I own several cars in which i run Federal 595ss and RS-R. Im about to do a set of 255-35-18 RS-Rs on my Evo. I currently run these on my procharged Z06, and a 750whp 98 Ek Hatch, a K series boosted car. I Also use these on my E46 BMW daily. Ill do my best to answer any questions if you have them but as a dealer of Federal for over 10 years Ive NEVER had a single defective tire. Thats saying a ton in this business.

If some wholesaler/retailer wants to either try them on a nationally competitive evo vs. the competition, or offer these up to a national competitive driver, that would be a good way to get real world data.

I have had Cooper contact me about something similar. I always have an interest in learning if a new tire can compete with the best options out there, but I couldn't justify paying for the 'unknown' vs. the 'proven' tire to compete at a top level.

I'm a complete noob to racing. My first event will be NJMP Thunderbolt on Feb 23rd.

I know this thread was particularly aimed for AutoX feedback, but given my posts in the thread and my interest to get as much knowledge out there, I felt it was worth while to post in here.

I'll be ordering the Federal 595RS-R's tomorrow from onlinetires. I contacted them today to confirm inventory and pricing. They are completely out of 265/35R18 with no ETA. However, they do have some stock of 255/35R18 which I'll be ordering. They'll be mounted on my 18x9.5" +34 Volk CE28N Time Attack's.

I know for sure I'll be doing 2 track events this year, and the rest will be DD. This will be my spring/summer/fall setup. I'll keep you guys updated!

I hate to bring a thread back from the past, but can anyone tell me will 265/35 fit my set up, stock suspension, 9.5" wheels with +35 offset. I have ran the 255/35 with no problem in their 595SS.

My quarters are rolled, and currently have normal camber amounts.
