Can't get new rear rotors on....
Problem. I removed my rear rotors to put my new ones on. Stoptech power slot rotors. I cannot get them on. They are the correct rotors, they match up perfectly with the ones that just came off. The holes all line up but the rotor wont actually go over the drum for the parking brake. I thought at first it might have been the wrong rotors but then I tried putting the old one back on, and the same problem occured. Is there a way to compress the parking brake so that the hat will fit over it? Here's some pitures. Where I am pointing is the place where the rotor is making contact. I tried turning the brake adjustment wheel in the bottom picture every which way but it doesnt seem to make a difference. Parking brake up, parking brake down, still wont go on. Suggestions?

not sure what you mean by works. are you referring to the actual drum itself? it has very little play. and I tried moving it every which way to get it to fit. there is a fairly uniform gap between the drum and the shield that is behind almost all the way around except for the part that my finger is pointing to. the gap is nonexistant at that spot, which is causing the problem. its almost as if the drum exploded outward at that spot and is now too big to fit the rotor hat.

No, I mean the shoes. I never worked on the Evo drum brakes but I've had the pleasure of sampling about every other drum brake system there is. The position of the shoes is usually only anchored to something solid in one place so they can be shifted around a little.

There is a little wheel with teeth on it that you need to spin to bring the shoes in. Once you slip the new rotor on, you can then bring them back out some again so your parking brake works properly. Good luck.

+1. When you install the new shoes the overall diameter of the shoes is usually larger that the inner diameter of the drum for the E. Brake. The second picture in your post shows the adjustment screw for the shoes. Turn that until the drum slips over the shoes, from there you will be able to fine tune the drag on the drum through the hole in the hat of the rotor. If you need any more help or have any more ?'s feel free to PM. I usually check EvoM a couple of times a day. Good Luck.

I am a little confused here and nobody has asked this yet so I figure its worth a shot. Is your parking brake engaged or is it all the way down? If you have your parking brake on then release it and the brake shoes wont be so far out.

I think if he had the parking brake engaged when he started he would have had a really hard time trying to get the rear rotors off. The new rotors have a smaller diameter than what the old rotors had. You need to adjust that star wheel until you can get the rotors on then adjust back down until you can't spin your rotor freely.. Then turn three teeth other way to loosen and you should be set.

Ha yeah as I mentioned originally I did have the parking brake down, so that wasn't the problem. I finally figured it out. The shoe had been knocked off track it seems and the guide that holds it in position was pushed much further back on the drum, causing it to protrude out much further than it should have, causing the rotor to hit it. I used a flat-head screwdriver to pry it back onto track and it popped right back into place. Rotor slid right on, then I readjusted the parking brake teeth. Thanks for everyones help!
