Good sticky drag tire question

Good sticky drag tire question

Im looking for a few good options that would give immediate response on launch at a drag strip, cut down my 60', and give an over all better 1/4 mile. My car is my daily driver, so im not looking to spend $400-500 per tire. If anything a good 255/35/18 to go on rpf1 18x8.5 would do me okay. If you guys have options could you tell me why you chose this tire and its price? Also do you guys have a lighter wheel option for a good price other than the rpf1?

For a good drag tire you would be better off going with a 17...plus they will be cheaper. In addition to sticky, you will want a soft sidewall. If you will be daily driving a good bit, try the g-Force T/A KD. Otherwise I would say the MT streets.

Do you have an Evo or a RA, because you posted this in an evo section and it says you have a RA...

RAs carry the evo 9 drivetrain, the evo x motor and I've done the turbo swap up to a twin scroll turbo. Im pushing 375whp/403wtq on E85, so this isn't some question I can put in the ralliart section because im no longer on that level. Plus my fenders are rolled

I thought the ralliarts have a sst transmission?

They do, as so does the MR.

Back on topic, so am I looking to go slick or sticky? I understand the trade off with the tires wearing down quicker. Im not looking to road course, just drag and daily drive on competitive tires that will give a better grip

I would look at something from extreme performance summer or max performance summer for top in daily driver dry grip. However, since street tires are not drag radials they won't deflect under load like a true drag tire. Thus, I wouldn't expect great launch times using a street tire for this application.

If you don't mind a semi slick, go with the Mickey Thompson ET streets.

I can daily drive on these legally? Also I don't understand drag tire sizes, which would be okay to go for a 17x8.5 rim or equal to a 245-255/35-40/17 tire

You need to run a 9" wide wheel minimum but these are the mickey's you want:

So 9 inch would be recommended for that hp/tq amount?

9"+ wide wheels are recommended for that first tire that I recommended because of the tires larger size. If you already have your 17x8.5 wheels, just stick.with the second tire option I listed. The tires are also dot approved.

What's the tread life on those. I may take the first one and go 17x9. Again, thanks for the good info

I would definitely go with the first tire as well. Keep in mind that it is a 275/40/17 tire though and while it will fit with ease on a stock bodied EVO, you will have to roll your fenders. The ones that I have seen driven on the street have lasted about 2-3k miles.
