1018 Mild steel:

d = 0.284 lb/cu in
4130 chromoly steel:
http://www.matweb.com/search/DataShe...5c2a4745f63593
d = 0.284 lb/cu in.
From where I see it, I ****ed up in saying it's lighter; where I had also effed up was saying that you actually need less chromoly than MS to get a job done with the same, or higher, strength. Gloat, because I'm rarely wrong.

The weight isnt worth the headache with aluminum vs steel. I had aluminum lug nuts on my car, ALWAYS hand tightened with a torque wrench. In the winter, i was going to change my brakes and i snapped THREE of them off... The time and headache you save trying to remove three snapped lug nuts outweigh the gains..

[quote=Stormin Norman;9475348]Just get mcgards and call it a day.... save the $9000 you wanna spend on lug nuts and use it for something that actually makes the car go faster or hit turns better.
The companies that sell us these parts are the only winners. With elaborate talk and advertising we get lulled into wanting to waste our hard earned $ on things that will not really benefit us consumers where it really matters.
