cutting rear fenders?

is there a downside to it? just looking to hear opinions

i hear cutting them is easier and safer (no chance of buckeling) then rolling them

its easy and can come out great, but you are exposing bare metal so you have to do something to eliminate rust. you also have to cut very slow so the paint doesnt peel.

as far as cutting, you have to make a light pass to get the line down. let it cool and make another pass, etc. when the metal gets hot the paint lifts just like when you use a heat gun to strip paint. i used to do it all the time when i did custom wheels and tires for a living and even being careful some paints would lift.

So are using just a normal cutting wheel? Or using some sort of sanding disc to do the job?

I would roll them only. Use a heat gun and do it slowly. I feel there is no way to cut them with out doing some damage to the paint; also it could weaken the sheet metal.

thinnest cutting wheel you can find. after its cut then smooth and finish the cut edge by hand with various grades of sandpaper. the rear 1/4's are nothing to mess with, they are very expensive to repair so keep that in mind.

i would roll only. use a fender roller and a heat gun and take your time.

cut if you are going wide body, but thats a different type of cutting all together.

I have read so many stories of people creasing the fender trying to roll it. Im talking A LOT of stories. Even most shops cut fenders before trying to roll them on an evo

i only need a little room, im going to push them out a little and just roll enough to clear. a flat roll is a disaster waiting to happen.
