Carbotech Bobcat nightmare!!

Clearly this is not the case and reality specifically goes against their false marketing claims.
I offered to make a movie clip of the noise that these pads produced on my Evo, but they flatly refused stating that they were aware of what brake noise is.
So, what have we learned? Clearly, Carbotech Bobcats are THE PAD to stay away from for any car that has large brake rotors, like the STI and especially the Evo8. In fact, go with ANYTHING other than Carbotech brake pads for the Evo and you will probably be a lot happier and won't waste money on a product that was clearly not designed for the Evo. Sure, they can buy OEM brake pads and dupe the layout and measurements, but it is clear that they never tested the product themselves on an Evo.
Off to Ferrodos I go.

GEEEEZZZUSSS! Are you ****ING SERIOUS???? You just kicked the company square in the nuts on this message board and then you have the GALL to ask Carbotech to be fair to you? Holy crap. When did common courtesy turn into a one-way street?
Excuse me for getting so pissed, but I learned about Carbotech's products several years ago through word-of-mouth when they were just starting out. They make a fantastic product, they take a lot of time to explain braking technology (Lord knows there is lots of ignorance on the subject-yes, me included), and they are a small company in a market filled with large, successful, and established firms. These pads helped me win the local autox championship a couple years back and it upsets me to hear someone come on here and try to slander this small company and their product. If you aren't happy with the product, that's one thing, but don't f*$% with a man's livelihood.

Actually, if you read the post calmly I said the Bobcats were the wrong pad for the EVO. Nowhere did I say the pad was bad for any other car nor were Carbotech pads overall, again just wrong for Evo.
And I clearly stated that I did indeed call the and talked to Larry and asked what he could do about the issue. He said that he could do nothing about it at all and that basically it was too bad for me. BTW, that was stated in the previous post I made.
STAY AWAY FROM CARBOTECH PADS FOR THE EVO8.
Maybe I should make the word Evo bigger, since you people somehow think I am talking about every other car out there. I actually intended on buying Bobcats for my wife's WRX, but based on the customer service of Carbotech, I don't think I will be doing so.
Thanks for getting involved in a situation that has nothing to do with you.

Yeah, you definitely have not heard the brake pads on the car. But thanks for your useless opinion. It's always interesting and entertaining to read emotional rants.
Had the company been a little better in marketing their product which again is supposed to produce little noise, we probably not be discussing this. And had the company been more receptive to the concept of at least attempting to satisfy unhappy customers, we probably not be typing away in this thread.. but, here we are.

Carbotech makes great pads I have been using them for years and I Love them.
The bobcats are not good for our car lets get over it and move the **** on. Get the panther plus pads and go back to racing and having fun
IF u dont like noise dont get racing pads. To get more stopping force u need more friction witch requies a metalic typ pad witch makes noise because it more of a metal on metal.
IM going with the panther plus for my EVO and will continue 2 use carbotech fof my brake pads.
Why are there always bandwagon hatters on this site. NOt everyhting in the world of modding is gona be perfect. Set back's will come and u will have to deal with them so move on learn from mistakes and get on with life

If you're so supportive of carbotech, why dont you buy the bobcats then. You'll get anew meaning for the word noisy. The noise can be heard from like 300 feet away. It's not normal performance brake noise, it's from the depths of hell or something! My passengers cover their ears when I brake...it's quite embarrasing. I'm sure the Bobcats are perfect pads for any other application and they have rave reviews....which is why Jan (who is also a friend of mine) and I bought them.
No one is asking for a rabbit to be pulled out of hat here. There are customers in here crying out for help, and Carbotech should really take this to heart. I originally made the thread to see if anyone else had issues with the pads, and to see if anyone had a fix. It wasnt meant to slam carbotech and start a crusade.
Matt has been extrememly nice over the phone with me, and if you ask him, we are both working together to figure this out. I havent asked for my money back yet because I've been trying everything to find the solution to the noise because i'm stubborn and persistent like that. I think now that everyone has given up the battle (even carbotech agrees there's a problem), they need to take the next step. Either a refund would be great, or maybe just swap us out for some panther xp's. If my brakes are going to make noise anyway, i'd rather have them stop incredibly too. Nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to customer support. Again, i'm not slamming matt or carbotech. I'm just saying what I think should happen now that the problem has been documented and identified.
Every thread in here doesnt need to turn into a flamewar!! Take up target shooting or something to get some anger out....or football.

You are in luck, sir. I'm going to provide you with an analogy:
Jimmyjoe wants a fast car. Buys an Evo from his local Mitsu dealer. After a couple weeks, Jimmjoe isn't happy. He doesn't like the loud noises and rough suspension, the poor fuel economy, the tires that don't last 60,000 miles. Dealer points out to the customer that the Evo is a performance car and it is what it is. Customer demands dealer buy the car back. Dealer refuses. Jimmyjoe tells everyone he can not to buy an Evo cause its a crappy product and the dealer has poor customer service. THE END.
Reading Comprehension Section:
--------------------------------------------
Q1: Did Jimmyjoe really want a sports car?
Q2: Did Jimmyjoe research the Evo before he purchased it?
Q3: Was there anything actually wrong with the Evo?
Q4: Did the dealer suck for not buying the car back?
If Jimmyjoe posted on here with his Evo complaints, all of you would rip him a new one. And guess what, it has happened numerous times. Now the situation is the same, but the players have changed and several of you are siding with 'Jimmyjoe'. And I'm doing Carbotech a disservice by pointing this out? It fascinates me the places poor logic can whisk people off to

Find me where it says the bobcats may be noisy. It says they are low dust, low noise, and rotor friendly. The noise you hear isnt low noise. A cop could justify giving a noise pollution ticket....they are that loud.

Coolguy - I respect what you're saying. Others have not been as polite or as logical as you have been and it was them that I was addressing. I hope you get this worked out with Carbotech and that others at least see the logic behind the points I've made.

I bought a set of Panther XP for the track and I couldn't be more happier. (I was probably one of the first guy who ordered the Panther XP for the EVO. Hi Matt, this is Peter from Houston. )
This is my first set of Carbotech pads and I can tell you that there will be many more in the futhure.
just my $0.02

OMG - what happened to this thread? I am one of the people who are having problems with my Bobcats and I think this whole thing has gotten way out of hand.
When I first called and talked with Matt he was very straight forward about the fact they would be a more noisy pad. He also was very clear about how to prep my rotors, and brake the pads in. I got (almost) exactly the pads I expected; no complaint about that.
The issue that makes them not suitable for me is regional - the way the leading edge of the pad rounds into the rotor is a design that's unsuitable for winters where I live. If the leading edge wasn't rounded like it is, most of my "winter" related problems would probably disappear.
The noise is manageable; after a proper gooping with good quality anti-squeal my pads are almost silent. Stepping a bit harder on the brakes helps, too.

As Rob stated he started this thread to see if anyone else was having problems. Then Carbotech said that they will pull out of the Evo8 market because they can't get these bads to work properly. With that said a company that prides themselves in customer service would do whatever it takes to make their customers happy. Be it a buy back or a trade in deal. The long term harm that can be done by customers that were not taken care of in my opinion is well worth a few sets of replacement pads.
Many businesses have had to except a small loss to keep the buying public happy and to improve the perception of their service and quality. Its well worth it in the long run. Hell customer service 101 says: It can take months to make a new customer but it can take seconds to lose one and then have it snowball into MANY lost customers. Its a shame when you see so many companys lose current and future business due to something that could have been so simply handled with a refund or replacement.
Good luck Rob and the rest that are having problems. Hopefully this will get worked out and everyone will walk away happy. Those of you ripping the people with issues make no real sense to me. If you felt that your money had been wasted on a product that isn't doing what was advertised you would want something done also. I really don't know anyone that spends this kind of money on a part and would be happy to just say "Oh well, chalk it up to a loss and find something new..."

Back on topic please -
I, like Coolguy949, am disappointed with my Carbotech Bobcat pads for the exact reasons he has stated. I bedded my pads per Carbotech's instructions, resurfaced my rotors, retained shims, used anti-squeal on backing plates, etc... I am no stranger to performance brake pads and their associated trade-offs and was fully prepared to accept additional noise for the improved braking performance. I read Maddmatt's posts on other braking threads on this forum over the months and was convinced by his claims that the Bobcats were the best available product for the street. That's the only reason I purchased them. I trusted what Matt said about them.
Now Carbotech is aware that there are issues when installing these pads on an Evo. Bottom line is that for the reasons Matt has already explained, they do not work as designed for this application. I have no reason to question Carbotech's claims pertaining to the Bobcat's performance on any other applications, however on the EVO there are too many issues to qualify them as a reasonable substitute for a streeet performance pad.
I would gladly welcome anything that Carbotech might offer to help out here.

Personally, I'd be happy if they could swap us out for some Panthers at no cost to us. If my brakes are going to be noisy, I might as well just get the race pads.
I took my time and did A LOT of research before buying the carbotech. In fact, i was set on ferodos until I read Matt saying they dont fit perfectly on the rotor. I trusted what matt said so I went for the carbotechs because they seemed like the only pad that had been thought out and developed for the evo 8 caliper. When I saw the price i was sold on them.
