I'm with the above with one exception/addition: be careful about maximizing droop travel on our cars because the stock CV joints can only go so far before you risk pulling an axle out of a cup. This is an issue for those setting these cars up for rally in particular.

03, you're basically saying to adjust the threaded body so that you get full compression without a spring installed? Then put the spring in and set preload to achieve ride height?
I've followed FAs instructions of 1/4" front and almost no preload on the rear. I've got some stiffer swifts coming and curious if I should do it differently.

Your right, Preload is important mainly on the front springs where approx 1/4" of load is needed to set the spring in the perch. The rear spring just needs to be snug w/very little preload. I guess, I was envisioning his coilovers being way out of preload i.e. one spring highly preloaded & the other lightly loaded (i.e. 7" springs loaded up by over 1")
What i meant on my first Q was just the shock length, not springs as i dont adjust height using preload.
