Post Tires: looking for better than Kumho

Need to find a replacement tire in a 215/45-17 size. Kumho is not sticky and tends to understeer and sidewalls are weak.

This is for a summer tire that will be for fast road use. I want it Quiet and with a stiff sidewall.

Now I am leaning towards the Potenza S-03 PP I would like some other options that are under $200 a tire without giving up much performance. S-02PP is not made in this size.

Try the SP8000s. They are loud, but they grip like anchors.

Other options are the Michelin Pilots. Damn good tires but very expensive. Check out the Tirerack. www.tirerack.com

SP8000 don't come in my size and they are real fat. Will not clear DMS suspension.

The SP9000 are made in the 215/45-17 but I've been told they are not so great. Anyone run these that think different?

RE730's treadwidth is 3/8 narrower than the Kumho and 1/2 inch narrower than the S-03's

Kumhos are junk. Made cheap and they don't grip.

Might look into the toyo proxies T1's

Thanks for the replies though.

Amen, the Kumho's work fine for me. I have a mild suspension upgrade:

STi Version 5 Struts
Eibach Springs
Whiteline Adjustable 22mm Rear Bar
and the Kumho's

Works great for general day to day driving, and on occasions more spirited driving.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-730 are always touted as a good performance tire for the price. Falken Azenis look interesting, but I'm not sure if they make that size.

I have Falken Azenis, they don't understeer. When you go above 50 and do a pretty sharp turn, you'll slip into oversteer.

I've just fitted Yokohama AVS sport to my E6 TME in place of the S01 on there originally. I was going to fit S02 but thye rae no longer available and have read mixed reports on the S03.

So far the Yoko's grip better in the dry than the S01 and are much quieter. Dunno how well they will last as they seem to be noticably softer and don't have a massive tread depth. Grip in the wet is still not great but the slides are much more progressive and easy to catch.

Can you get these Yoko's in the US? i paid 121 sterling for each tyre compared to S03 at 126.

S-03's rock on wet, dry and some dirt. I woudl recomend them. Even at 3/16ths tread I liekd them better then stock re-92s on my suabru and then that stock crap on my former rustnag.
I got Hurto Sumounos or somthing else unpronounable...they suck. I am very unhappy with there wet preformance...

I was happy when the S03 had gone on my TME. I drove them on the road and on track. The only good thing about this tyre is the comfort and wet grip. Everything else is plain disappointing. Turn in is not sharp, dry grip not too good, not precise through a corner (needs correcting all the time). On hot summer days I could melt them after about 10km of spirited driving. Don't ask me about my track experience with them! I always bought Bridgies but not anymore.
Now I've got the Falken 451 which is way superior to the S03. Only downside is road noise but who cares on an EVO!

Cheers

Mike

PS: size was 225/45 17 ZR
