dunlop z1 star spec or HRTZ III?
so its about that time where i need to buy tires for my evo ix soon. and through searching i narrowed it down to Sumitomo HTR Z III based on budget. i currently have the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec on the car right now and i was pretty pleased with those tires. i really wana kno if anyone has gone through both these and in ur opinion which one felt better- grip, traction around corners, and quality. my evo is street driven and i only go to the track a few times a year. ur opinions would really help alot. if they are almost equal in performance ill settle for the HRTZ III. if the dunlops are alot better i guess i may consider saving up more for the tires. thanks.

dunlop z1 star spec or HRTZ III?
Hey buddy I was on a budget when I needed to buy tires this season. But I choose to run Dunlop dz 101 from tirerack.com I have been running them for 2 months now and I love them, no tire spin.

Another big recommendation for the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs, I run them year round since we hardly get any snow/ice and I'm on my second set. They are great for street class autox and spirited daily driving. I don't see myself using any other tire on my Evo.

If you want comparable grip of the Z1, but can sacrifice a little grip to save some change.... Look at the Hankook RS3.. I have run both, I have run the Z1 competitively over and over, but if I wanted a tire a step off of them to save some $$, but didn't want to give up much grip... RS3 is the next way to go, hands down.

For the category this tire is in I feel they have great life. Proper tire inflation and rotating them on regular basis yields a gripy long lasting street tire. My last set lasted 1 full autox season, several mountain runs, and 18,000 miles of spirited daily driving.

I've had both and there's no comparison, the Star Specs are far superior in every category, even wet performance. My Current set is a Dunlop Sport Maxx TT which is right smack in between the HTRZ III and Star Spec, offering much better grip than the HTRs, and much better wear than the Star Specs. I got about 20k out of my HTRs, 15k out of Star Specs, and so far the Sport Maxx have 15k with at least another 5k left. I've also had Kook V12s also which were better than the HTRs but not as sharp as the SporttMaxx.
That all being said, I'm going back to Star Specs for my next set. They simply just did things with much more grip and confidence. If I had the money, I would go with RE11s.
