Question Outer Tie Rod out. Brand difference?

My outer left side tie rod is going out. OEM from Mitsubishi is pricing me $48 each. I plan on getting two just so i don't have to worry about either side.

My question is I go on ebay and find so many differently priced tie rods. I know you get what you paid for but i found 2 for $23 on there!!!

Has anyone messed with aftermarket tie rods? Experiences? advice?
please and thank you!

At this rate one should be able to build a brand new Evo with ebay parts for, what, about maybe $800 or so?

Consider what this part does and how the span of your life would be affected if it were to fail. That should put the cost in perspective.

I put whiteline on mine and have been happy with them. Lot more pricey tho.

How often are you really going to change these? This will probably be the last/only time you change them, just spend the $100 and do it right

I would never buy an Ebay tie rod, especially for $11, it must be made of plastic. Buy the OEM one for peace of mind and best quality.

Too bad companies like Moog have not stepped up to make a aftermarket replacement pieces yet. They would certainly be as good as OEM and you can get them over any parts counter easily

I have the Whiteline pieces as part of their Roll Center Kit. Did have to replace the boots as they were torn, which Whiteline generously shipped me for free

Moog does make tie rod inner and outer replacements.

Just go to any Advanced and ask for them. It's about $25 a piece. I've bought Moog before and they do, in fact, felt like there was quality built into it. It was much heavier than the Whiteline and compared to the old OEM ones on my car, it was just beefier.

And my boots on my Whiteline also ripped. I heard Whiteline fixed the boot ripping problem but I would still replace the boots with OEM.

Well that's good to know. Haven't looked into it in a few years and back then they did not have an Evo application.

So likely they'll have the front ball joints and rear joints as well then. Awesome

be careful when you go to advance or autozone, for some reason a lot of Evo suspension replacement parts I've tried to get from there were actually lancer parts or they didn't have them.. I've had good luck with napa though

I would be careful with the Whiteline stuff though... I was just replacing my axle today and found a torn boot on the driver's side tie rod from my RCA kit. Doing some research on the net it seems to be a very common problem. I'll be contacting whiteline tomorrow, hope they will send me some new boots at the very least. Hopefully the tie rod joint isn't trashed, I have no idea how long it's been torn like that. I have also been experiencing some clunking from the front passenger wheel area, it seemed to be rotational mostly on stop/start. That's why I was replacing the axles, assuming cv was bad. I've read of some clunking noises in subarus from whiteline's ball joints however, I'm really hoping it wasn't my whiteline ball joint making that noise. That'd be a pretty big waste of $ on new axles... Interested to drive the car and see if the noise continues, whiteline will be getting an earful if I had components of theirs fail on both sides of my car within two years of installation of their RCA kit. I will update when I hear back from whiteline and get the car on the road to assess whether or not the noise was due to the whiteline parts.
