Just as the title says, and whats your opinion on it. Track/Autox/DD, how does it ride/ perform? Im thinking of doing this set up instead of the MR Bilstein/swift spec R set up. I know the Bilsteins are more comfy, but is the stiffness of the KYB`s benificial for track/autox?

I'd like to add a question to the discussion. Would it be unwise to install the springs in OP's question on an VIII that's been on stock springs/struts for 80k miles?

I would have to say its fine as long as the struts arent leaking, Im at the same mileage. I ran tein s techs for the last 20,000 miles or so and just put the stock springs back on because the s techs spring rate was way to soft to actually handle well. As long as the struts arent leaking or blown, it should be fine. But I have also heard your suppose to replace your struts at 50,000 miles. Seems a bit overkill but idk.

The KYB/Spec-R setup is slightly stiffer than the Bilstein/Spec-R combo. You can expect marginally less body roll with the KYB setup, but I would expect the Bilstein/Spec-R combo to handle uneven surfaces more easily without upsetting the car.

I run the KYB/Spec-R setup at the moment, but I would still prefer to have the Bilstein/Spec-R setup instead. Digressive valving is great to have just about everywhere.

^ Thank you for your informed response. Makes plenty of sense. I have also heard that the Bilstein/ Spec R set up is better for handling rumble strips on a track for that very reason of being more forgiving and not upsetting the car and absorbing the small bumps. Glad to get a response from someone that has experience running the set up in question.

My friend had those springs on his evo.. not sure if he was running stock struts or not... but they felt pretty comfy for his DD... I hear swift makes the best springs.

Swift is known to make very good springs.

Was your friends EVO an VIII or a IX? GSR or MR?

You may already know this, but the Swift Spec-R springs are the KYBs and the Bilsteins differ slightly in overall length and sprint rate. I don't think the difference is large, so you may be fine with the Kyb Spec-Rs on the Bilsteins, but nonetheless they are different.

I Ran swift spec -r on my kyb's for 50,000 miles before upgrading to kw v3's. That combo works great, but expect a harsher ride. Kyb struts do not come valved for swifts higher spring rates.

I have been on swift spec-r springs on my stock MR bilsteins for about 2 years and they have been great. The only other spring I would even consider are gtworx. If you are picking up a used set of bilsteins I would suggest sending them in to get revalved for your new springs prior to install. This way you know they will be good to go for years to come.
