Plasti dip wheels

I know threads on plasti dipping have been made 100's of times. I recently just plasti dipped my door handles and emblem. I'm looking into doing my wheels once I get new center caps (my old ones got stolen, and i still dont know how they managed to do it). I have the MR wheel on my 2004 evo 8. I'd prefer to keep my wheels on the car, as I only have a single jack, which would make it take a lot longer to do the wheels, as I'd have to do them individually. The space between the wheel and the brembo brake is less than an inch wide. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i should tape off my calipers and rotors so that no plasti dip gets on them? Also, as a side note anyone here a smoker? I recently got my evo (about 4 months ago) and i've managed to not smoke in the car. I used to have a car with leather upholstery and it was pretty easy to get the smell out. Does that smoke smell stick pretty bad in the evo? or would just opening all the windows and sunroof while smoke take care of it?

I would just refrain from smoking in the car. I mean, I get it's your car and you can really do whatever you want, but I feel like that smell never comes out. I've been in cars where people smoke in them and even with all the windows down in the summer, I can still smell it. To non-smokers, we can smell that from a million miles away. If you cannot refrain from it, I would suggest getting "auto" Febreze or some things to stick under your seats to at least mask the smell.

I see. My old car actually belonged to my parents, and they never caught on to the smell and I managed to get the smell out entirely before I helped them sell the car. That being said, I know it's a b---- to get out of the car. I've also noticed that every car is either good at dissipating the smell, or the smell gets stuck for quite a while. The previous owner of my evo seemed to be quite a heavy smoker, which was evident from the ashtray, but neither me, or any of my friends have noticed any sort of smell. But I guess it's a good idea not to smoke in the car given my past experiences, thanks for your input.

why not take the wheels off, use the index-card trick around the rim, then plastidip them?

as for smoking, its been a year now since ive quit, i cant smell any smoke in my car...febreeze/air fresheners. if you need to get rid of it, rather than prevent, you can also try an apple, cut it in half, let it absorb the smell (some old trick) or a plate of white vinegar in a closed car, windows up, no passengers.

this. you have to be super lazy to not take wheels off if you want a decent finish on them without getting paint all over whatever is behind the wheels

i used the jack for one side.positioned the jack in the middle of the car and lifted whole side.this way you can remove 2 wheels.

I've seen them done both ways and they come out looking the same honestly. The difference here is you are obviously spraying over the lug nuts unless you tape them off some way.

Next sets I'm doing are going to be the stockies on my Sonic and my buddy's WRX. Ill likely pull the wheels and do them all at the same time in the driveway come spring.

You don't need to use the index card trick, I mean you can but it comes right off the tires actually it doesn't even really stick to them

No problem. But you are right, some cars you can tell and others you can't. My mom and dad smoked in their vette and you would never know. I would never smell it when I drove it or even just along for the ride. In their truck however, I can't even stand within 3 ft from it because it just holds on to the smell way to much.
