Im sure they are plenty of threads on this topic already but I will provide my .02. In my case I have two sets of wheels which gives me the best of both worlds. Ive got a dedicated set of summer tires and a dedicated set of winter tires.
No matter how you cut it all season tires will be a compromise. can you get away with them? Sure but it will certainly not be optimal. That's why I like to call all season tires no season tires.

I switch to Winter tires every year after Thanksgiving mounted on a set of stock size Kosei K-1 TS wheels. I have tried various Dunlop WinterSports and BridgeStone Blizzak LMs on the Evo. But If I had to buy a new set today, I think I would try Pirellis winter line. I have Pirelli Winter Sottozero2s on my Mini, and they are amazing for the dry, wet, and snow. That Sottozero Perelli model does not come in an Evo fitment though, but I was so impressed with them that would investigate other Perelli winter models that are available for the Evo.

I also run two sets, one all season and one dedicated winter. That's the best scenario but may not work for everyone. All seasons sacrifice snow/ice traction to give you four season convenience. There are some decent all season tires out there, but even the lowest dedicated snow tire on the totem pole will do better winter wise vs. an all season.
