Question Looking for new tires

Hey all,

I am now on the hunt for new tires. i'm concerned about the size. i have a 265/35/18. I'm trying to stay with the same side profile, but I want to make sure that I still have some sidewall. 255/40...is that to much? I dont want to have a super sidewall. Unfortunately, the car sees no track time 10.4 miles a day. Is all the car does. With occasional spirited driving on the round abouts and curvy roads.

I'm thinking of cheaping out and going federals, but at the same time i wantthe bridgestone re-760s or maybe even the re-11's. big price difference, but i dont use the car as much as I would like to, and the car isnt used as much as it should be.

this is where i sit now.

thanks.

V/r

The 255/40 will be a bit tall, I would use 255/35-18. That's real close to your current outside diameter. I think the RE-11 would be a bit of overkill for the type of use the car gets. RE760's, BFG Sport C2, or Hankook's Ventus V12 would all be great dd tires for what you're describing.

I run a 40 on 18s and it's fine. I can't seem to upload a picture (iPhone 5).
I autox and have no problems (depending on conditions I run 38-41 psi)so I'm sure it will be fine your style of driving, daily driving is comfortable too.

I guess a pic did work. Said it failed. Anyway, bad pic I know, but gives you an idea of he sidewall.
I feel I must explain the pic......
It was winter (Dunlop winters) and went around a corner a little fast and barely kept it off the curb, dragging my mud flap on the curb and bending it back, it was a close one lol.

the 40 you have is for a 235 tire. its not the same as a 40 for a 255 tire.
aspect ratio is dependent on the section width.

i would go with what neal suggested, the hankook v12's are good for DD since u dont use your car.

Yeah, I guess I didn't clarify what I meant. For a DD I like to have the skinnier tire (not so much for autox), little more comfortable as it doesn't hit every little thing on the road and rides in the groves. After reading my comment I realized my error. Good eye lol
