Best tire size for 18x9.5?

I bought wheels, the tires that came with them are stretched and I just hate the look (215's on it). Would 255/40r18 work or do I have to go 255/35r18? Would 245's work or are those too stretched? I would get 265's but I also want to avoid rubbing, so I have settled on 255's. Just wondering what sidewall height I could go with.

Theres no one good answer, except that the acceptable tire width range for a 9.5" rim is 245 to 275

The 35 series tire matches very closely to the stock EvO tire (235/45/17). A 40 series puts us way over in circumference but looks & performs better on the street.

40 series also makes fitment a bit tougher & may require the rear bumper bolt relocation

I run an 18x9.5 +22 te37 sl on my 9 with a 235/40/18. Minimal stretch and a slight fender roll in the rear. I dont rub at all at the height im at and it performs pretty well on the street
