TEIN Z Coilovers - Are they any good?
#16
I just autocross so I tripod a lot. I have 510's also (10k/11k swifts). I don't track but I don't really tripod when going on longer sweepers in autocross, mostly everywhere else.

Providing some feedback as promised.
I recently ran Atlanta Motorsports Park on the Flex Z's. My last time out was on Eibach springs. I have no experience with any of the higher end suspensions, but these were my first impressions. Body roll was significantly decreased, steering feedback was improved, and I could turn in faster with more confidence. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and will keep testing to find the best settings. With more seat time to justify it, I'm sure I'll pick up some Ohlins in the future.

Body roll is a function of springs, of course going to higher rate springs will make the car flatter. Where it really comes down to the difference in good vs bad shocks is the adjuster actually does something and at least close to what you think it does, Shock to shock variance is less, they change less as they heat up, reduced stiction, long life, rebuildable and revalvable. There certainly are other qualities, but Tein will not check all these boxes.
But, with more spring you will probably be faster regardless. Just not as consistent or composed as you would on something "more".

Nice driving Hookah Bazooka, Thanks for the update! I installed my Flex Z this weekend and it went smoothly. I'm to the point of figuring out what dampening setting is best for my road condition. I currently have it set to 15 clicks (Hard) on the front and 7 clicks (Hard) to the rear. Out of curiosity, what did you have the dampener set to on the track and for daily driving? Also, what camber setting do you have it set to?

I leave it at 8/8 for street driving. I ran at 9/9 and 10/10 on track, which may have been a little conservative. That track day took the last bit of life out of my RE-71's so I'm not sure how effective the setting changes were. I picked up some Maxxis RC-1's that I'll be running for HPDE and autocross events and hope to see more feedback from setting changes.
Currently running -2.5* up front and -2* rear.

You guys cant compare knob settings from shock to shock, even the best shocks in the world aren't matched that closely and guaranteed your Teins are all over the place. Not only that, cold to hot the are going to vary quite a bit. You just need to go by feel. Pay attention to the car when weight transfer happens, not steady state balance.
