Question Rough ride - daily driver - need tire/suspension recommendations

I've got a stock '03 Evo that I commute to work with - 30 mile round trip each day on mostly bad roads - and while the stiff ride is great for the track, it's hell on a commute - every pothole feels like a major impact

So I've got two questions:

1) What would you guys recommend for a tire replacement when the initial set run out - I don't want to lose too much performance, but I would like a tire with a more comfortable ride.

2) Does anyone have any experience with any of those aftermarket adjustable-ride suspension kits (maybe one with a central cockpit switch) where I can go from street-to-track settings?

Mike

BTW - are any of you in the Ventura County area?

Would you want to go with a performanc all season based tire that will give better ride and life but give up some performance Or a summer performance tire that will still retain some handling traits like the Advan?

Yokohama AVS ES100's are pretty good for ride, but you willl definately sacrifice handling.

Great bang for the buck thats for sure! Many people have good luck with that particular tire.

Thanks Kyperion! Email went down on the ship so I couldn't reply to the posts. But I will be here from now on

I ran them on my eclipse before I got the EVO.
Good highway manners, good in the rain, and better ride than the advans (they still suck *** in snow though).

You can get goood sidewall performance out of them, but you have to boost the pressure to do it.

I have 2 with 400 miles on them sitting in my garage nex to the HTR+ snow tires. When my advans finaly go, I will be switching to the ES100's since i am getting a second set of wheels for the AutoX tires.

Neal: since I'm in SoCal there's no need for an all season tire - it never snows and I can't remember it ever raining for more than a few days.

So what are the main advantages between the Yokohama ES100's and the Advan's?

Then a tire like the Yokohama ES100 would be a great way to go. The new Fuzion ZRI, and Kumho Ecsta MX are also great performers for the price

I read numerous posts where they state that the Toyo T1-S have soft sidewall but are still quite sticky. The price is also great on them.

I can't give you an opinion on the Toy's yet, but I think that will be my next tire. Just to a search on the web for more opinions on that tire.

Okay - I think I'm sold on the Yokohama ES100's - but what about the suspension - I think I would prefer an adjustable setup (though it doesn't have to be from a cockpit switch), being able to go back and forth between street (with a better ride than stock) and track settings sounds better than compromising for something in between that isn't really tuned for either.

I just put on the Kuhmo ecsta supra 712's and the ride is super smooth. They do good in the rain as long as you don't do anything too harsh. They are very quiet too. My car is my daily driver so I wanted a comfortable tire too....plus these were inexpensive....545 installed. You will, however lose a lot of the stock grip feel. I can drift the car on corners it used to hold. When it comes to tires there is always a sacrifice.
