I guess what I am wondering is, how much of an advantage in all the comparison tests of the EVO, are the stock Advans? Does any other manufacturer of comparable high performance cars (Subaru, Nissan, Mazda, Porsche, etc.), use such an aggressive tire? Are the Advans the EVO's "ace in the hole" in all those tests that it posted better braking, slalom, road course numbers than some comparably priced (and some much higher priced!)high performance cars? Just curious

The STi comes with Bridgestone's RE070 which is very similar to the Advan. Porsche GT-3 comes stock with Pilot Sport PS-2's, Enzo Ferrari has a tire specifically made for that car, Lambos with Pirelli. On the same level as the EVO, Subaru has the closest OE performer to the Advan.

The F1 Supercar used on a lot of, well, supercars is pretty bad ***. Standard equipment on the Z06 and F355, F360.

It's available in 245/45-17, but at $229 a tire... yeah, seeing a trend here?

They are for sure the stiffest tires, grip is damn good too. The STi's look more aggressive but not as good. F1 Supercars are good for one VERY quick lap but once hot get whipped by PS2s and Kds. To answer the question, The EVO is awesome but the tires give it it's manic personality. My 2c

The S02 that came on the S2000 and Boxster are pretty agressive, as well. Similarly expensive and short lived, too.

Surprisingly the Celia GTS comes with Yokohama Advans too.
