255/40-17 Fit on an EVO!! I didn't know. here are the pics
Let me say first, I don't own an EVO, I just sell tires to you guys! I got two calls today from members looking for 255/40-17 T1S and one member, TAZ who has bought a few sets from us who is using the 255/40-17 Toyo RA1 as his everyday tire in Puerto Rico. I coudn't belive it, since I'd been told they would only work with rolled fenders. Guess you learn something everyday. I have pics courtesy of Taz. His car is lowered and he is on stock wheels. He also said he has wider wheels and uses the Hoosier R3S04 that we sold him, and there is plenty of room.
The only way this is going work is keep the offset proper. That said, if you want to see our prices on Toyo RA1 or T1S go to the site www.frisbyracetire.com
If some local EVO owner would like to stop by for a test fit, I'd be happy to do it.
PM me for more info or call the shop.

After reading that, my understanding is the fenders will not need rolling with the 255/40/17 on the stock wheels? Specificly when using the RA-1's?

This has been posted, asked. and discussed many many times. I have been autox'ing/using 255/40/17 Victoracers on my stock wheels lowered with Tanabes springs all season...
No problems with rubbing..it isn't even all that close to rubbing as far as I can tell.

The size chart says 8" - 9.5" But... here comes the big but. There is a 1" fudge factor on wheel size to tire size. So, that said, 1/2" is going to pose very little to no problem. Only thing is the tire will be a bit taller. We do this kind of thing all the time on race cars.

As an FYI - I have 245/40 Falken Azenis on the stock rims. At a recent autocross, we had a turn that required a hard left-hand turn with the steering locked (as far to the left as possible). The tires rubbed. I haven't looked to see where yet. My car is lower with Tanabe GF210 springs. That is the first time I have heard interference.

255/40/17 tires on the stock rims will definitely not require rolling the fender. How much camber you are going to run might also be a determinant. I am running 245/40/17 T1-S on the stock rims and I have an inch worth of space between the tire and the fender. If anything, it might rub the stock shocks.
tsi90awd, are you talking about the 245/45/17 Falken Azenis Sport? I was running that tire on 17x9" +35 offset rim + Tanabe GF210 spring and when I road raced my car, the Azenis Sport rubbed the inner plastic fender on the passenger side (next to the oil cooler).

Whoops! Yes, I meant the 245/45 Azenis on the stock rim. I just had a quick look in the passenger side wheel well. It is close in there when the wheel is cranked over to the left.
I guess the point is that 255/40 tires on the stock rims might be OK with stock ride height and/or street driving, but there is likely to be interference with spirited hard turns to the left.

I got 245/45/17 Falken Azenis Sport, and they rub the black plastic peices in the inner wheel tub, now it totally came off, which effected my front brakes cooling, even though my car is not lowered !

The reason a 245/45 may rub isn't becasue of the width alone..it is because it is a taller profile than the 235/45 or the 255/40. The 255/40 is actually a little lower profile overall than the stock 235/45.
