White Rabbit Turbo Group Buy
White Rabbit Turbo: ---- Shipped
This turbo is the result of the last 2 years of product development. Our goal was to produce a bolt-in, stock appearing turbocharger for the EVO4-8 platform that outperformed the stock turbo.
We went through many prototypes, some pretty poor to be honest, before satisfying our initial design criteria.
The turbo had to spool up like a stock turbo and not give up any bottom end torque. The turbo had to sustain boost in the top end without dropping off, at least enough to maximize power on standard 93 octane fuel.
The White Rabbit is the first level of "bolt in" upgrade turbocharger for the EVO4-8. This turbocharger provides an advantage over the stock turbocharger without giving up any of the boost response of the stock turbo. Retaining stock like spool up was the first priority for this upgrade. The second priority was to deliver additional airflow capacity so that the characteristic top end drop off of the stock turbo was eliminated. These two design constraints were met while at the same time allowing for high boost operation that significantly improves power over the stock turbo at boost pressures above 22psi. Some instances realized a 70+whp increase at 7000rpm compared to the stock turbo.
What this turbo is not - It is not a voodoo enriched black magic turbo that spools like a stock turbo and makes topend power like a GT35R. We are all limited by the laws of physics. Maintaining stock spool characteristics means retaining the factory equiped TD05H turbine wheel, either in TiAl or Inconel form. Either flavor will hit a brick wall when the choke flow rate of the TD05H wheel is reached. The secret is finding a compressor aero package that can get the most out of the TD05H exhaust wheel. This sounds easy enough, but it actually turned out to be one of the tougher challanges we have ever faced. Mitsubishi has done a very good job with the stock turbo and identifing the existing shortcomings was not easy work.
Now the work is done.
07/13/05 - As of today we have this turbo in stock. We will be building many of these over the next weeks, please understand that not all sales reps at FP will be trained to tech support or sales support this unit. For technical assistance regarding this turbocharger speak with Robert Young or Brian Wilson directly.
Here are some first hand coments from users;
“No surging whatsoever under any condition. This turbo has been on our "family" Evo daily driver for almost 8500 miles for durability testing. During this time, my wife has driven this car to work and back every day that I haven't kidnapped it for testing. LOL. With the boost set at 18psi, she could not tell a difference between it and the Rabbit. Driveability is virtually the same as stock." Tym Switzer, Switzer Performance Innovation
"I have used Robert's fierce bunny turbos in my own shop race car for past 3 month's, and also another EVO that I drove/set-up racing in the Caribbean. In my EVO driven by SCCA rookie Kent Jordan we have won 5 SCCA ITE races, 1 at Buttonwillow Raceway http://www.buttonwillowraceway.com/ and the last 4 in a row at Thunderhill, http://www.thunderhill.com/ At every track I have run with this turbo, we have gained a substantial amount of laptime when compared to the stock 03 turbo with the 10.5 hotside. The tracks we are talking about are Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, Buttonwillow, Ponce Puerto Rico and the Streets of Willow Springs. Each of these tracks require having excellent boost response to make good laptimes, and the white rabbit is an excellent way to go for both the power and reliability of this unit. All of our events are 30 minute races(in as much as 90 degree heat so far this year) which in the case of Thunderhill, we are averaging over 83 mph for the entire 30 minutes. For a street/track day car, buy one or for sure you will get passed by one. The added ultra bonus round about the bunny turbo is the ability to make good power that is invisible to the naked eye, as it is common here in Southern California to have local law enforcement wanting to inspect under the hood of rowdy biggee turbo EVOs." John Mueller, Road Race Engineering
“The White Rabbit Turbo has been on my car for over a month now. It has performed flawlessly. I am using a flash by the WORKS with the AFC as a piggy back. My mods are…Automotosports full exhaust, O2 housing, front mount w/lower intercooler pipe, AEM intake, GFB blow off valve, HKS 264 cams, WORKS Throttle body, HKS Twin Power Ign. Magnecor wires, NGK bpr7es plugs, Snow Performance water/alcohol custom 2stge kit. 91 octane is all that’s ever been in the tank. I hope I haven’t forgotten any mods.
Current boost level is a 27lbs spike falling off a little. I will have dyno numbers soon. I can say that this turbo made a substantial power increase over stock and spools very fast. A friend of mine with a 02 ZO6 checked out some EVO tail lights the other day. This is the only power example I have for now. I’ll check back soon!!!” Todd Chiamparino
"I just wanted to post an update since my road tuning session with WORKS and my White Rabbit. Finally, I have been able to effectively eliminate that piggy back AFC. Running solely with the WORKS flash, the fuel is now perfect in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear at WOT and part throttle drivability and performance has improved quite a bit. They have also begun adding ignition timing incrimentally while carefully monitoring knock and ignition timing at WOT on the road. They want to make sure I am not quivering the knock sensor and the water/alcohol injection seems to be doing a very good job at preventing detonation. Also, with my manual boost controller, my current boost level was verified by WORKS' Innovate Motorsports datalogger and a second boost gauge. It was actually spiking to 25 psi, settling at 23.5, and tapering down to 22 at 7k RPM. Since I am no longer running a piggy back, I will have WORKS control taperless boost through the factory ECU. My EVO feels much stronger than it ever has with the AFC and WORKS is going to continue tuning next week.” Todd Chiamparino
