The D2 is the updated D1, both are disc based units (one CD slot for music, one DVD slot for the nav map, but no support for playing DVD movies).

The Z1 is the hard drive based unit, that has 30GB, 10GB reserved for the nav map and 20GB for music. This one does support DVD movies, but it is also mucho more expensive.

Doesn't the Z1's navigation get updated frequently through its navigation antenna? Or is that just there to look cool?

Not sure.. I'm pretty sure that antenna is just for the GPS signal, as all nav systems w/ GPS will have one of those.

I'd imagine you'd insert update discs into the system to update the nav maps, or just bring it to your nearest authorized Pioneer dealer to update it.

i have the z1 and i haven't read anything that says the navigation gets updated through the antenna...i'm sure you have to get it manually updated.

Yes, the antenna does update your position on the map every few seconds. It also uses the speed sensor to guesstimate where you are on the roadway if you lose signal from the satellites. The D1, D2, N1 and N2 also operate the same way

To update the actual maps themselves (that are displayed on screen and used to calculate routes), you purchase Map Update Disks. It will probably be the same for the Z1 except instead of leaving the new disk in the drive, you will insert it, and then it will copy the updated maps to the hard drive.

Hey everyone, I can't thank you enough for being as patient as you have been.

I received a shipment of metallic parts last week and will be receiving a shipment of black grain tomorrow (confirmed with a UPS tracking number) followed by another on Thursday.

This backorder WILL be filled this week and inventory levels with us AND 201motorsports.com will be fully replenished to satisfy more customers with this fantastic product!
