HVAC: backlight change?
i wanna get an evo x and im still waiting for them to give me a lower apr. but i was just wondering if u can change the backlighting to the hvac controls and under the cubby hole. i did it in my 3g eclipse cuz they were just bulbs that you twist out and change to leds. but i tried doing it to my 4g eclipse and found out that the backlights were soldered on leds.
i hope the evo x isnt like that because i want to make em match the gauges.

If your willing to spend the money...Acree on the my350z forum could probably do the conversion for you. I'd assume it's LED's behind the HVAC because thats the way it is in most of the new cars. The work speaks for itself

Its not going to be easy.
The backlighting on the AC panel is provided by tiny LEDs that are soldered on to the circuit board. Very clever! So the only way I can see that the color can be changed is to remove the the 2-3mm LEDs from the circuit board and solder on different ones. Plus taking apart the knobs is very tedious.
I'd still like to see this done, but I just don't think its worth it at this point.

It all depends on how bad you want this done. There is plenty of information on the internet to teach you how to solder LED's and working with circuit boards and what-not.
My brother and I completed an LED swap in his Supra and recently swapped his lights in his 99 Impreza. The impreza came with just a couple bulbs so we hardwired a whole string of LEDs to replace it.

The lights aren't dim, they just look like that cause it was hard to get a good picture in the dark. My Nikon just kept wanting to light up the gauges. The picture even makes the HU look dim and it's like a 3 month old Alpine.
Good luck if you're truly interested. It makes such a dramatic change that it's worth the time and effort....IMO.
