Where is everyone mounting your radar detector?

so apparently the Escort 8500 x50 is bigger than the V1 No way to put it above the mirror and have any sort of rear visibility... maybe if I stripped the dot matrix off. It's simply too long and hits the mirror. Below or beside the mirror it is then I guess.

Well that's a bummer... it's such an awesome spot!
How far down in comparison to the dot matrix (frits) was the detector? I mean, I'm just wondering if you maybe had it higher or something? Anyway, you'll know better than I if it fits, since you tried it, I was just curious.
Find another good spot!

I don't have a Lancer (yet), but I've got my detector tucked just below the rearview, with the power lead across the headliner, down the A-pillar, and tucked under the driver's side dash to the power outlet.
Here's a trick that might help some of you:
The power lead for my detector is a PHONE CONNECTOR at the device end of the power cord. I snagged a phone cable and an inline coupler to extend the reach of the power cord.
I decided not to bother hardwiring because I'm getting rid of that car in a year or so anyhow.

Thanks to xPRimNT for helping me with the ideas on how to hardwire it. I hardwired it using the cig adapter with the vampire clips the V1 came with. I placed the V1 on the visor clip b/c my windshield mount is back at home (i'm off at college)
ran the wires through the pillar
hardwired to cig adapter with power unit tucked into the back
this is where i drilled a hole and ran the wires
bottom view
the completed setup

Thats a great set up. Mines pretty boring just hardwired over the center of the dash (Passport 8500 wont fit behind mirror and I don't like things in the way of my visor)
