What are the options if you want to keep the factory audi unit ..... just the standard CD unit?

Can you put an amp in the back to run a sub?

Can you put an amp in to run some better speakers?

Changing the factory head unit isnt an option......

It depends on what unit you have. If you have a GS-R you only have the option of a MP3 connector, nothing else unless you have an amp with hi level inputs (inputs that accept an already amplified signal) If you have the rockford system you would have to dig around to find the pin-out on the connector, but it should be possible to add an amp like they do with that system. Of course if you had the rockford, you would already have an amp and sub. You can always change your speakers in your doors to produce better sound, but with that said, the factory unit is "tuned" to use the factory speakers and without a sub you might lose some of your lows.

Thats great information mate, thanks!

I have a GSR so it seems like my options are limited.

I agree with your comments on the factory speakers and head unit being 'tuned' .....

So the only sensible option is to change the head unit! hummmmmm.... thats going to mess up my 'clean' look!

Thanks for the advice!

Not necessarily, get a Double-DIN bracket and install a double din unit

it all depends on how much money you want to spend to keep the clean look. im currently doing a build on an 08 gts and keeping the factory navi by using parts of a JL audio clean sweep as well as as a Rockford Fosgate 3-sixty.1 unit. so yeah its possible but you gotta pay

look at audiocontrol as they have products to integrate amps and speakers with factory headunits. This is going to be your best bet for the best sound possible with the factory headunit.
