Question about the OEM 2-DIN trim

i've been looking at several pics of the OEM navi system. since i only have a 6cd changer, i would like to drop in a AVIC D3 into its place. problem is, of course, the dash trim. i'm currently on the wall between a metra 2-din kit, and getting the OEM trim kit. as i look at the OEM navi's size, though, it doesn't look to be a standard 2-DIN, but a wide 2-DIN. has anyone tried fitting in a standard 2-DIN unit into the OEM navi trim, or should i get the metra kit and call it a day?

i knew metra was poor quality, but it was all that i have found thus far. now that you mentioned scosche, i'll opt for that instead. thanks.

Or you can order the JDM factory Mitsubishi Double Din Piece. That is what I used to mount my AVIC in my old MR. It looked factory and fit perfect!

There was a thread with pictures. Looks like old(er) threads are being deleted even if they are useful.

i.e. make a trim ring to fill in the wide 2-din space. Mine is kinda big.

Agreed... I have the Scosche kit and it's pretty damn good. Not worth spending $200 on a piece of plastic. Get the Scosche.
