factory Music Server question

i installed the factory HDD Navi unit after i bought the car, therefore i don't have the manual for the Navi unit. anyways, this morning i noticed the music server has been storing all the songs i've been played using the CD player. does the music server automatically record each song you play via CD player? or i accidentally hit the record button when playing the CDs.

That's an option. I turned it off cause it drove me nuts.

Why would you not want it to record them? You no longer need to carry the CDs with you, and change them. That's a big plus.

Because I don't want to record EVERYTHING I happen to stick in there, and plus it takes like 1/4 of the CD length, to rip it. It's not exactly fast.

i believe the '10 models come with 40G unit. does that mean all 40G are dedicated for music server or that's combining music and navi.

thanks for the replies, while we're on this topic, how can i tell whether my navi unit is an '08 or an '10 unit? dealer told me it came off a brand new '10 EVO, the owner didn't want it but wanted the exact color and option of the car so they took it out and sold it to me for cheap. here is the screenshot of my unit: thanks in advance.

41.02 is definitely a '10 version. But it's not the nav itself that is different. It's just the software.

i guess the only way to find out the year of the unit is to see the capacity of the music server, should be 20G if it is an '10, right? i need to play around with that thing more often.

I don't even know if there's a way for the Navi to show that...

I have exactly 0 minutes of music stored on my HD.

All the units I've seen either came with a 30GB or 40GB drive - the "extra" 10G was not allocated. The music server slice is ~5.4GB. I have over 100 CD's recorded onto my system and it's only using 1.7GB of the 5.4GB slice.

Yours (pic posted above) has the most recent maps that I've seen so far (07/2009).

The MMCS does not display percent of Music Server partition usage.

honestly the music server is absolute garbage, especially considering i can't just dump mp3's in there and call it a day. if it wasn't for the nav and good car integration, i wouldn't have even installed the mmcs.

No doubt. There's a few old skool CD's that I'd like to throw in there, but otherwise I just drop mp3's on a CD and play them. I had an 09 Lancer GTS with the nav, and I used it a bunch and loaded a bunch of music on it, then traded in the car. Too much work lost, and I'm not sure if it's worth it to do it again. So I don't

Even when I had an MMCS in my car, I had a few MP3 CD-Rs that I'd use. I'll reconsider going with a Mitsu factory system when I see Fuze in action...
