Update!

I got the 9140... omg what a difference. I haven't even set my gains yet, and can already tell it's 100 times better. Screw non eXcelon Kenwoods. I'll report back once everything is done. Replacing the speaker wire with shielded wire as well.

Update on this thread.

The changes I've gone through since have simply been nuts.

A) Replaced Kenwood 7140 with eXcelon 9140
B) Replaced speaker wire through out the whole car with shielded wire
C) Made custom baffles for the front doors
D) Got rid of baffles and replaced the XPe's with XTecs

Now in my mind the system is just about perfect. The key was ditching the XPes. They are just not a midbass speaker. I was trying to get something out of them they just weren't designed for.

These are what i got:

Now I just need to fix a leak on the seam of the sub and I should be golden.

^ Very nice, nice setup.
Do you have any pictures of your setup? Ive gone down the same route with my setup.

For the leak in the seam of the sub i think you can use silicone sealer to patch it up. The silicone sealer is very flexible membrane that moves with the sub.

I'm surprised I never saw this thread before. Anyway, another thing that helps quite a bit is putting any sort of dynamat material in the doors. They can be as effective as baffles. I haven't done the doors or any baffles, and I'm surprised how good the speakers sound all around. Then again, I put a $300 pair of JL's in there. Sometimes it's all about the speaker, but often the deck can make a big difference too.

Well there is actually quite a bit of vibration that goes on. I have 2x2' of dynamat on the speaker holes. And I still get a ton of vibration on the outside door panel by the door handle. This is why we tried doing baffles with filling. The baffles effectively killed ALL mid bass in any speaker we tried. So we got rid of them, upgraded the speakers and made a better MDF ring. Works great now!
