Still having misfire issues..

Hey folks, sorry if this is the wrong forum, but..

Does everybody's 08 X spit and buck a bit under load over 5 grand?

Or are most or all of you getting a nice clean smooth motor up to redline? I just am not familliar with turbo cars, and this missfire may be somewhat normal.

There is no misfire under partial throttle up to redline, but the greater the engine load, the more noticable it is. I had the factory reflash, but the problem remains.

I also wonder if everybody has a slow starter.. mine cranks so slowly that I'm sure that when winter comes it just won't crank.

Has anybody put a thicker battery cable in there to lower the voltage drop? Did it have much effect?

Thanks. for any comments.. I have 5000 Kilometers on this car now, and they haven't been happy ones!

Well the dealership had its first crack at the reflash. 3 and a half hours later I got the car back and there is no differance.. Missfire and power loss over 5 grand under load.

There was a tech from Japan working on the car, but he didn't speak much english, so I really couldn't ubderstand what he was doing, except that the reflash that he brought with him didn't work, so he was writing his own program ( !!! ).

They gave the car back to me as fixed, but it was just the same.. I went back and they confirmed the problem was no better, but now I have to wait another two weeks or so for the conclusion of a general tech meeting that all the shop managers are going to in Vancouver. This problem will be on the table to discuss.

I'm really starting to regret this car being in my driveway. I am coming up to my 7500 KM service, and it doesn't look like it will be running right any time soon..

Just give it to the dealer and let them know you will not be using the car until it's fixed. They'll know when it's fixed they need to test drive past 5k to see if the problem is there.

There is a second reflash that is also supposed to be fixing the high rpm stutter and there is no way for that person to be "writing his own code". The software isn't availabe for open source tuning and especially not at Mitsubishi dealerships.

I had stutter over 5k and the first reflash fixed mine. If your car goes straight back there it should not take more than 15-20 minutes tops to get the flash done. I was back there with the tech watching the whole process from start to finish.

I'd recommend trying to find a dealership that doesn't fail at life because the reflash should be a simple and painless task that gets you in and out in less than 30 minutes. Yours would be the first I've heard of with hard cranking issues. Mine turns over pretty quick, there were some problems on a few cars with idle issues but not the initial cranking over ~Trent

Also meant to ask, how do you know it's misfiring? You should be throwing a CEL/SES code if it is in fact misfiring. Mine threw a code for a misfire once a few weeks ago out of knowhere (P1320 if I remember correctly)

I live in San Antonio where it reached 101 today and my car cranks slow. Sometimes I have to let go of the key and re-turn it before it will start. I need to take it to the dealership, but i've been busy lately.

I have the same issue and the only thing that makes this condition BETTER (not fixed) is to run Sonoco 94 octane fuel. Any 91 octane fuel makes the stutter ridiculous.

I agree... and on a side note slightly dislike anyone lucky enough to have anything better than 91 at thier pumps. although if prices get any higher im just gonna go run 100 since its not going up in price yet..

Well I had the first reflash, the onefor the 1320 idle code, and it helped my high rpm hesitation little bit, most likely because mitsubishi did a couple other things to the software other than fixing the idle. However, it still bogged a little bit, especially when first getting on the gas after shifting. I went to get this second reflash the other day, the one that specifically was supposed to fix the hesitation above 5k, and it worked beautifully. My car pulls harder and smoother to redline and the bog when power shifting is completely gone now. Now my car drives the way it should've when I bought it. Now if they could only come up with a fix for the rough transmision...

Mitsu has released a flash for the high rpm studder(not a mis-fire). It is available at any dealer.

Yea I call it a misfire, but it really is a stutter.. And even when it doesn't stutter it really stops pulling over 5 grand, you know, just king of levels out power wise and coasts to redline.

My dealer is unaware of this second reflash cure for problems like mine, so I'll keep on them. Is there a part or referance number for this second flash?

And more importantly why am I being forced to badger them on this issue.. If a Mitsubishi executive was this cars new owner, the problem would have been fixed long ago.

sigh
