Question about ECU Reflashing.

Im new to the open source ECU software, and here is something weird i experienced, perhaps someone could shed some light on the situation.

I purchased my evo with a reflash already in it, and decided to put in an HKS ECU to tune it myself, cause the reflash sucked basically.. I recently just got the Tactrix cable and decided to take a peek at my current ECU flash for the heck of it. When I read the current ECU data from the ECU to my laptop, all of the information was in jibberish.. The RPM values in the fuel table were all at 6023, there were inputs in the fuel table that varied from a target AF to the word "INF." to 673, all sorts of crazy readings. The timing table was all -2, and the RPMS were all 20,000+. None of the information looked readable in terms of the base maps i had looked at.

Now I deiced to upload a stock Evo8 map into my ECU, and the car would not even stay running despite being tuned with the FCON.

When i reloaded the original map, the car started up and ran fine..

Is there a difference if the person that flashed it used a different software or encoded the map somehow?

Any input to this??

I tired ECUFLASH 1.29, and 1.40 both did the same...Am I retarted??

Would that apply for me pulling the file out of the ECU that was in there, and it being completely unreadable??

Its "locked"
Some hex editing or running an unlocker will fix it up

Careful you dont loose the downloaded file either. When you reload another "base" map you have to swap the immobolizer code as well..

It could be locked, but seeing how he downloaded it from the ECU, I believe thats not the case. With a locked ECU, it wont allow you to read (download) the map from the ECU.

Sinec he downloaded it and it read weird, it probably the definition file.

Yep, and with the style of "locking" you can download the map but it is scrambled.

No worries though, Julian got his unlocked file
