Pulling DTC codes: any option other than PCM Scan?

Does any of the other software support pulling DTC codes on the X? I heard it works with the free version, but when I try it says this feature only works in the full version. I'd rather not buy it just to pull codes.

Thanks!

thanks jp! I should have clarified that I'm looking for software options that will work with the tactrix openport 2.0 cables. I kinda assume that as the default premise at this point sorry!

A bit of background as to why: I'm starting an in-dash touchscreen carputer project. It'll do all the typical stuff like gps, mp3, dvd, internet (via cellphone tether), etc. Advanced stuff I want to work in later: on-board camera recording, track GPS map support with lap time calculator and sensor logging. And some tuning options: ecuflash and evoscan. The only thing I'm missing is the ability to pull DTCs. I could just buy PCMScan, but then I'm paying $100 for just 1 feature, since Evoscan does the rest already. So I'm just looking for any other more reasonable (free would be nice!) software alternatives.

I was under the impression that pulling DTCs didn't work on the X yet? And I tried I tried with the various methods and never got any results (while the CEL was on). Anything I could be overlooking?

Nope, DTC pulling for the X is not yet in EvoScan. The 8s and 9s are fine, but no X.

You can clear with ECUFlash though!

I've been using PCMScan, so I can't offer anything! Sorry...

So we're stuck with buying PCMScan if we want to pull codes for now? Is there a way to be able to pull the code in the demo or not? I've heard you could, but the demo I have sure doesn't work.

I REALLY need this feature in evoscan to read codes ... I threw a code today and am going to have to go to autozone to have them read it ... I feel like a retard being able to log but not read DTCs.

An old trick i remembered: if you jumper pins 4 and 9 of the ODB2 port together, then turn the car on, it should cause the CEL light to flash instead of stay solid. The flashing pattern should indicate a 2-digit number: first digit in long flashes, 2nd digit in short flashes. You can use that pattern to look up most basic codes. I haven't tried it on the X yet, but if anyone wants to give it a go, it could work as a poor mans CEL reader

+1 Same here. Has there been any update on whether EvoScan will get this functionality?

I wish someone would get on here and give us some reassurance that it will gain that function eventually.
