Ok so let me get this straight 3 port would be the way to as opposed to getting a MBC. How about if I just bought an electronic boost controller such as the HKS evc. Would that be good route to go our would the 3 port suffice for boost control?

the electronic boost controllers are going to cost you 300+ dollars new. some of them in the 500+ dollar range. they will offer nothing that the 3-port with ecu control cant already do. so in conclusion, your wasting money buying a electronic boost controller when the 3 port does the same thing for a fraction of the price.

Ok well the 3 port costs me $100 dollars reprogram ecu costs at least $300 so the point about cost is out the window. What if I wanted to save gas and lower the boost level on fly? What makEs our ecu superior to aftermarket ebc's??

the EBC will be at least 300 dollars, and for an X, your car will be undrivable with an EBC on it without a tune (hello limp mode). soooo, you'll need a tune for the 3-port and for the ebc.
if you want to save gas, don't floor it. simple as that. i've never found a reason to have a low boost setting, because if you floor it at low boost your still going to get terrible gas mileage, but now you'll be slow and get bad gas mileage. the only true way of improving gas mileage is to just not floor it. and having a 28psi tune will still allow you to get great gas mileage if you drive it easy.
the stock ecu is superior because
1) it is included in the purchase of the car
2) uses 2d lookup tables for great precision and adjustability in the WGDC.
3) self correcting, have a problem and it can/will cut boost
4) since many of the limp modes and CELs are tied to airflow, the stock ecu controlling boost makes it far easier to stay within the acceptable range of air flow so as to not throw CELs.
5) don't have extra computers/controllers that can fail
6) most of the extra features that come with EBCs 95% of the people with them don't use.

Good points Kevin. Yea you need to retune for any boost controller anyways, so 3-port seems best price and best performance. I hate having to worry about my boost level and hoping nobody cranks it once or twice when checking under hood or oil change. Also like the fact of not worrying about the temperatures outside.

ok so we tried the EGR 3port from a EvoIX last night.
hrmm not so good, wgdc of 30% netted 23psi, and 35% kept going (ie we stopped the pull)
swapped the tactrix in and 65% gave a predictable 25psi...
In the end we went back to the stock setup since the extra boost from the 3port made the same kw from the twin setup with less boost (but more timing)
I still think the 3port is better because it gives you much finer grain control over your boost curve.
stock setup isn't bad, but for me 3port is still better
