Cobb AP Dynamometer Testing and Results

Ok guys I did some testing on my otherwise bone stock Evo X GSR today with the Cobb AP's dynamometer performance testing.

All testing was done running 93 Oct.

Vehicle weight was calculated as follows. Curb weight Evo X GSR from R&T magazine testing 3517 lbs, Full tank of gasoline 13 gallons at 6.2 lbs per gallon(Approx weight of gasoline at 60 deg F), weight of myself 247 lbs. Vehicle weight was rounded up from 3842->3847 to fit the Cobb's parameters.

All testing was done on the exact same stretch of road, in the same weather conditions, approx 10 min in between runs.

I did testing on Cobb's stock, 91 Oct Stg 1 v4, and 93 Oct Stg 1 v4.

Tests were conducted using 3rd gear, rpm range was 2300-7000.

Testing was conducted to see if this would be a useful tool in the future to see performance gains off of modding.

Here is what I found.

Stock tune:
294.75 hp @ 5656
318 tq @ 4127

(This seemed inline with a flywheel hp/tq number that would come from the factory)

91 OCT Stg I:
320.58 hp @ 6714
324.63 tq @ 3763

(This seemed pretty on par with what a gain should be off of an off the shelf tune would be, I'm pretty happy and thinking this maybe a useful tuning tool in the future at this point)

93 OCT Stg I:
460.42 hp @ 6912
360.47 tq @ 4396

(There is no way...... There goes my hope in this being a useful tool to track gains in the future. I would have been happy if it was a few ponies reading higher than the 91 tune.)

Has anyone else played around with this setting? Did you have similar results?

How many runs did you do with "93 OCT Stg I"? Maybe it was a fluke.

Ok refilled the car today. Had used 3 gallons testing yesterday and a short trip to the store, lol.... Anyway yes I think that the previous 93 oct run must have been a fluke. Did the runs twice today was only able to record one on paper, didn't have a pen in the car..... The first run was around 342hp/411tq. The second run was a 347.75 hp @ 5326 rpm / 392.26 tq. @ 3930 rpm. I am pretty confident in saying now that this maybe a useful tool in seeing hp gains. I think that the tq numbers are likely still far off on the 93 oct tune. The tunes are in line with the gains that cobb claims, the 93 tune seems more aggressive hp number wise than the 91 tune in their claims, but I'm sure that they conducted their testing on a real dyno. Overall not a bad little data source for hp numbers at the flywheel.

A gain of 53 hp at the flywheel is in line with what you would expect out of an off the shelf tune. The Cobb AP is deffinately a cool little tool.

I thought I would give a quick run down of the results vs what Cobb claims in HP/TQ pick up.

Stock run
294.75 hp/318 tq

91 run
320.58 hp/ 324.63 tq
(Cobb claims an est 18% increase in hp and 6.7 lbs of tq)
(This would equal 347.80 hp/339 ft lbs) (So the Cobb AP dyno performance setting said power was lower by -27.22 hp and -14.37 tq)

93 run
347.75 hp/ 393.26
(Cobb claims an est 19.3% and 9% tq)
(This would = 351.63 hp and 346.62) (Results of the Cobb dyno testing were - 3.88 hp and +46.64 tq)

The stock hp/tq and the 93 oct hp numbers seem where they should be at the fly wheel.
