I haven't gotten a tune yet but as soon as I get my 3 port I'm going with a street tune. It's going to be cheaper and that's part of the reason why. Later on when I have more mods I will go dyno but only after I know I am close to done with mods.

Both tunes are good. I really believe it doesnt matter what type of tunning you go with. What matters the most is who's tunning the car, are they proficient? A dyno tune is alot safer since it's done in a controlled environment.

Street tunes are real world elements on your car. Not to mention you gotta find a good flat area with no cops around. Someone once told me dyno=max numbers and a street tune=drivability. I've never seen formula one cars, nascars, etc on a dyno. However, I've seen them doing test laps then reconfiguring the cars performance/driveability on the track.

I've done both street and dyno tunes and have been satisfied with both. It's all in the tuner.

I had a pro dyno tune. Went to a road tune. The road tune blew the dyno tune away.

get all your parts ready on your car, then go tune, save some $$$

Road tune is awesome. My example of why it rocks is when you have an issue with the tune. Such as when i drive up a 20% grade the car knocks. That is the only time my car is seeing those load cells. Duplicating that on the dyno is very difficult. I can take the tuner to the exact same place and duplicate the problem. Then the tuner can analyze what is going on and make changes to the maps. Both are completely useful. Have done both but its nice to duplicate an issue and then see it resolved immediately.

These are the exact reasons why I prefer a road tune over a dyno tune. You don't drive your car in a controlled environment, you drive it in the real world with real elements. Doing a road tune allows you and the tuner to see how the car actually performs and reacts on the street, and then make changes accordingly.

The only advantages I see to dyno tuning are that it's faster and easier to see the results of the changes you make and you don't have to worry about the cops pulling you over on a dyno!

If you want the most out of your car, a dyno tune is definitely the way to go. Find a good-well-known-tuner and you'll be in good hands making more power than you would on a street tune.(usually....)

The best tune would be a dyno tune followed up by street tune. Or vice versa.

A mustang dyno is capable of reproducing this scenerio exactly, as well as any other road condition. An eddy current dyno has every advantage of a road tune with the benefit of all the data and lack of variability that the on road testing has. Win Win for dyno tune.

QFT
The last part of any dyno tune is a road test. Both a dyno and a road tune are only as good as the tuner.

depends on the dyno room temp and etc, but ive always been able to make more power then dyno tuned cars on the road remotely. real world environment testing is a major advantage when it comes to perfecting spoolup, timing, afr, etc.. cars tend to accept more timing on the road vs a dyno depending on the weather conditions and mods. every car has a certain sweet spot where it makes additional hp as well with afr.. and of course your afr will change once introduced to different airflow from street vs dyno..

as others said, the tunes only as good as the tuner doing it.

By a road tune do you mean they actually drive the car and tune it or do you give them logs of you driving and then they make a tune for your car like ams does with the e-tune?
