New (Used) Evo X MR with Service Engine Light Looking for Help

Hello,

Sadly, my first post here will be a help me post so bear with me. I JUST bought a 11' MR from a VW dealer used. It has 10,500 miles on it and was mint. It also has a AMS intake with what looks like a boost controller.

Here's a photo:

My issue is on my way home, I noticed the Service Engine Light on. I stopped at my local advanced auto parts store and had them pull up the code which was: Engine too lean, with a few things to look for underneath. Now, I have the stock parts that were on the car as well as the already mounted intake / solenoid, but I dont know much about Evos. That being said,

Is this "normal" for a CEL to kick on with an AMS Intake, MBC?
Is a tune required to run either of the two?
Should I put the OEM parts back on?

Also, The CEL came on when I filled up with fuel, which immediately made me check the gas cap, however that wasnt the issue as it was firmly screwed in. Also, after I checked the CEL and got home I let the car sit a while and then turned it on again, CEL is now gone. So im kind of clueless what to do. Do I try the stock parts assuming there is no AMS tune or anything like that? Do I level it be and watch it?

Any help would be great, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

I think its a 3 port solenoid and not a MBC as previously stated.

also having a tumbling engine noise, dont know if its normal or not.

Both of those parts require separate areas of the map to be tuned. If the car already has a tune it definitely needs to be looked at. If it's the stock tune with a 3-port and that intake you're definitely gonna be running leaner and at higher boost levels than intended for the stock map.

You need to find out if the car is tuned or not. If it isn't you can safely remove the intake and 3-port and replace with the stock parts. If it is tuned it won't run right no matter what parts you put on it until you fix the tune.

Just go easy on the boost till you get it checked out. No WOT!

The link doesn't work. The MR SST transmission makes a lot more noises than the GSR does. It could be normal, I guess we'd have to hear it to know for sure.

they must have just turned it off before they sold it to you, since it would come on about every 5 minutes with that intake and no tune
