Engine Blew up at 1,400 miles.

I purchased my 2014 MR on March 1, on April 5th I took my car for a drive out on some country roads and went home and my car was driving just fine at the end of the drive. Three hours later I was leaving my house to go to Chicago and the car started find and then once I hit 2,500 RPM the car started Misfiring pretty badly. I drove home right away and left it there until the next day. When I got home on Sunday the misfire was still there so I attempted to reset the ECU thinking maybe that was the issue, and had no luck. The car is bone stock thankfully. I was going to start modding it this next weekend. So yesterday morning I had it towed to the Mitsubishi. They pulled out the spark plugs and the #3 Cylinder Spark plug tip broke off. They tested the compression and it made no compression at all. This morning they pulled the head off of the engine and saw that the piece of the spark plug had gone and scored the cylinder wall and then it supposedly punctured the exhaust valve. They are working on dissembling the compressor side of the turbo to see if there is any damage at all. Which I can't imagine there wouldn't be damage as it wrecked the motor. So far Mitsubishi has been very helpful and the service manager is telling me that they are going to replace the whole engine and he thinks they will end up replacing the turbo.

All I can say is that I am so happy this didn't happen after I started modding the car otherwise I would have been screwed.

Has anyone else had this issue?

My IX had a short block rebuild under warrenty at 18K. I was the original owner and was not moddified at the time, with all the paper work showing all maintenance required. The reginal rep. came down from LA to verify warrenty qualification. It was determined a bad tank of gas caused excessive knock, with rod knock accuring as a result.
I ended up getting it tuned for the first time after the rebuild and have had no issues with the short block ever since. I'm at 124K now making 400awhp on a mustang for the past 80K. The factory map leaves much to be desired and at the very least, get it tuned after they replace the motor, as is, no need to wait for parts, you'll enjoy the car afterwards.

Yeah I plan on getting my car tuned once I get it back after the Engine and Turbo are replaced. I still cannot believe that these spark plugs are still being used after the number of issues they have had.

The part of the spark plug that broke off damage the Piston and Cylinder wall along with ruining an Exhaust Valve and the combustion chamber. Now I am scared to mod the car...

So I see you used COBB AP and flashed OTS map, I mean come on dude
you don't expect the community to believe that your 2014 BRAND NEW STOCK CAR just blown for no reason? If you flash a TUNE its not STOCK anymore, now you better hope Mitsubishi cant find out about the flash or you are screwed big time.
Instead of telling us your stock car blown up, maybe you should tell us what OTS MAP 91 or 93 what stage version you were running and how many lbs boost were you hitting?, so it will benefit community more than spreading this non sense about stock car engine blown up.

Had not flashed it yet I was waiting for some parts to come in first before I flashed it. The car was bone stock when the issue happened. Why don't you not attack someone when you don't know all of the facts.

Ok if that's the truth then I am sorry, but its hard to believe that you didn't even flash stage 1 map and waiting for parts for stage 2 or 3. If your telling the truth, then i guess you must have some terrible luck to see major detonation like that on stock boost.
I guess its just too much of a coincident that right after you purchased a USED ap and your engine is blown, but if you insist no flash
then I can only say someone must have fill up 87 OCTANE gas in your car in order to cause a stock engine to knock and blown like that.

I guess this is why we have warranties. Cars aren't always perfect when they leave the factory

You have a better tune now with stage 1 than the stock tune. Why wouldn't you want that. Lol
