wouldn't it better have the early spool and a more linear curve for power delivery when racing and every day driving

Is it possible to put the hotside from the X on the IX? Or the compressor from the VIII/IX on the X? Best of both worlds.

Most likely not. The turbos are oriented completely different.

chains dont really need to be replaced or even ajusted, i worked for a mercedes benz dealer for awhile, all mercedes are chains, never saw one that needed a new one, even at really high mileage

Timing chains that slack indicate problems in the bottom end. Ask any domestic guy. Change it when you rebuild the motor otherwise its fine.

The 15GK2 can make some pretty good numbers. Its the turbo of choice still on numerous US Evo Rally cars (I am not one to kiss and tell but I can think of a well known one immediately) that have made over 320whp with a restrictor and over 440 ft lbs of torque. If in fact the compressor of the X is the same as the 15GK, and has a larger hotside I wouldnt hesitate in saying it will at least match a 10.5 on pumpgas or exceed it. The trend seems to be that the X is very torquey (more torque than hp).

Great info John. You arent kidding about the torque either. I just picked mine up today, and man. The bottom end torque on this car is crazy compared to the IX and VIII. The downside is it doesnt take it to the red like the IX does. Too bad we couldnt of had both those worlds.
