Well, the big problem is that some folks believe the new head is a better design and a step in the right direction. Others believe that the exhaust ports are restrictive enough to where they are unsure if it is capable of outflowing the old one and it is probable that it's not at all better. I'm the first person to mention anything about a head flow comparison between the 8/IX and X heads. One would think that with all the manufactures here in the US (at least 3 of them) with X heads, someone would have done a flow test comparison by now. That isnt the case. And unfortunately, it's still the major cause of the 4G vs 4B head debate between all of us arm chair QB's out here!!!

are stem diameters smaller too on the x valves?
still interested in knowing the answers to the above questions

wow the combustion area looks like the valves are completely un shrouded and the runner angle from intake manifold looks nice and direct , should allow air flow to be real nice around the valve stem and valve itself.

So has anyone done the flow check between the two motors yet?

X has greater dynamic compression, more efficient, and better emissions. It also looks like higher quality machine work. My guess is the exhaust does not need to be freed up, comparitively to the VIII, due to scavagening during excess overlap at low rpm and less overlap at high rpm.
