Sorry to bring up an old thread but yes you can pick up an RPM signal on the X. I have mine connected directly to the #1 coil trigger wire at the ECU. I actually called HKS and they told me to hook it up there. You'll have to set the EVC to 1 cylinder and you should be fine.
Another thing HKS said was to be sure to set partial throttle boost parameters to prevent CELs from coming on. This is what they recommended:
30% throttle, no more than 90kPa
40% throttle, no more than 110kPa
50% throttle, no more than 120kPa
60% throttle, no more than 130kPa
75% throttle and above, no need to limit

On an EVO 9(mr if this matters on type) what pin on the ecu do you tap for tps (evc blue wire)? Then how do you know it is reading correctly? on my car, when i turn on the car tps read 100%, i thought it is to read 0% or may 5% at idle but it stays at 100% and sometime fluctuate to 91 98 75 81 and this is at idle (car is in neutral.)
