EVO X head flow numbers

I bought a new EVO X cylinder head to get started on port work and such for it.

The first step is to get the head on the flow bench and see what it flows before you start, of course.

We got the head off the flow bench today. Here is a BASIC idea of what the head flows. This flowbench (like our Mustang Dyno) reads numbers lower than the typically used Super Flow bench. The bench we use is a GKN bench.

INTAKE PORT, lift was measured at the valve.

.150 141 cfm
.250 202 cfm
.350 242 cfm
.450 256 cfm

EXHAUST PORT, lift was measured at the valve.

.150 142 cfm
.250 197 cfm
.350 212 cfm
.450 219 cfm

These numbers don't mean much without something to compare them to. So here are the numbers from a STOCK EVO8 head.

INTAKE PORT, lift was measured at the valve.

.150 177 cfm
.250 221 cfm
.350 224 cfm
.450 228 cfm

EXHAUST PORT, lift was measured at the valve.

.150 135 cfm
.250 197 cfm
.350 218 cfm
.450 218 cfm

So as I expected from looking at the cylinder head the intake port is killer on the head. The exhaust port is pretty close to the EVO8 stock head which is surprising looking at it, it looks like it would suck, not the case.

There looks to be some huge gains in the cylinder head. We'll have to ruin a few before we get a finalized head but we are working on it.

Very interesting numbers david. These numbers seem similar to the data i have found on the audi 1.8t head @ .350lift we get 240cfm...

Mr. Bushur, I think there are a few people out here that want to have your children now and some h8er's that want to kill your kids. Great that someone finally put numbers to the sizes, even though it won't stop the h8

Nice, I imagine that the reason the exhuast valve flows so well in spite of it's size being smaller is probably the bowl area around the valve and the angle cut of the valve. I don't know enough about this kinda stuff to be dangerous so I'll leave it at that. Sounds great so far, though! Keep up the great work.

Do you have numbers on a nine head you can throw in there for comparison sake?

Looks good. It looks like your bench is reading fairly close to a SuperFlow 600. On my SuperFlow 1020 I got 10cfm less than you on the old and new heads. There is definately some good flow to be picked up. I found almost 40cfm on the intake so far with the stock valve. I think there is more with some more time devoted. Did you flow the intake manifold yet? I don't have one other than what is on my car.

with such low numbers at low valve lift, a good 5 angle valve job is going to pick up a lot of flow........

25 of the 40 I picked up was from a pretty basic valve job. I am going to put a pretty radical seat in it next week before I go too crazy on the port. See ya later 4G.....this new head flows better than a Cosworth with a stock size valve and just a valve job
